OK ladies, this is certainly not a life-altering (or threatening for that matter) issue, but I would love it if someone has some advice. I love all those cute detail shots of wedding pictures where the bride and groom's hands with their new rings are shown together, but my hands are a mess! I go and get a manicure once every 3 weeks or so, but I work in a lab and have gloves on a lot of the time, plus I draw, and charcoal makes my hands even drier. In addition to the dry hands, my nails peel and tear off, and all around, my hands just don't look so good most of the time.

Since I can't quit doing labwork a month before the wedding (although my mom did say she'd spring for weekly manicures those last three weeks), does anyone have any suggestions? I try to put on lotion as often as possible, but it hardly seems to make a dent, and it does nothing for the nails.

Can anyone recommend miracle products/regimens?

Thanks!

What I did Amber was a few weeks before the wedding, if I so much as lifted a duster or washed a cup I would put the rubber gloves on and it worked, my nails were long and perfect on my wedding day, it really did the trick. Plus you could try the tip Shay came up with, she recommends using Vapour Rub on your hands at night with cotton gloves, she suffers from dry hands and said it works so well you think someone has left you a new pair overnight! Next time I am in the pharmacy I will be getting some to try. Also use handcream as often as possible especially before you put on the surgical gloves and you could try some cotton ones under them, as a friend reacts to something in the gloves, maybe something in the rubber they use and this makes her hands very dry and sore so this might actually be aggravating the problem. Pamper your hands like crazy and they should be in great shape for the wedding.

Hey Lorelei - thanks for the tips. I don''t think I could sleep with something like that on my hands - I am a super-light sleeper anyway and I always have trouble getting enough. But I might see if the cotton gloves under the medical ones could work - do you know where I could get a pair of those?

When I lived in the upper midwest, there was only one hand cream that could do anything for my ultra-dry hands in those bitter cold winters. It was Eucerin cream, in a pot, much thicker than a lotion. I didn''t use it in the summer b/c it was so thick but in the winter it was the only thing that helped. Maybe with some gloves over the top?? I''m kind of in the same boat as you, with little hangnail scabs on half of my fingers right now.

Got just the thing - buy Barielle''s Nail treatment cream - (Sephora sells it) rub it in once a day - cuticles look amazing!
Also Ulta sells "Solar Oil" by Creative Nail Solutions......put that on at night..... u won''t even need a manicure/cuticles trimmed!!

I've heard that parrafin treatments work wonders. I know that you can buy the parrifin baths at any of the box stores (target, walmart) for relatively inexpensive.

Personally ,I know what you mean about the dry hands and gloves things. I work in a hospital, wear gloves all the time, and probably wash my hands about 200x a day...at least. The one thing that i've found that works (and it helps the golves go on damp hands better) it that I carry around a tube of shea butter (love the stuff from bath & body works: its in a blue tube) and put it on after i wash my hands, almost everytime. after a day or two it will become a routine and your hands will thank you.
Also, My dad is an avid gardener and use to have the hands to show it. I got him hooked on this stuff by crabtree & evelyn called gardener's hand therapy. It smells great, works really really really well, and i think they even make a cuticle cream. Heres a link for it : http://store.crabtree-evelyn.com/home-and-garden-gardeners.html

I second the notion of Creative Solar oil. I also recommend develop 10 it really keeps your nails extra strong and you can apply it over an existing nail color.
