Don't blame me if this doesn't pan out, but here is the rumor: :wavey:

"On that note, here’s an insider’s tip: Anyone out there interested in Best Buy’s $99 Nook, it’s suspected Amazon will offer the Kindle for the same price starting Monday."

I think they should give it away free, since they make a lot of money selling the razor blades (kindle books) for this razor.

I had all intention in the world to stalk Amazon on Cyber Monday for great deals and hoping Kindle will be part of it :naughty:

Always good to post the rumors...wouldn't surprise me if it were true as I always thought $99 would be the very very sweet spot. They could probably even afford to keep the 3G at $189 and people would still pay to get it.

I think there was a post somewhere here where I predicted $99 by the end of the year? Would be great! Just in time for the holidays and we can all buy each other books as gifts!!!

 I deserve a referral fee anyway. I've been tirelessly promoting this thing since I got mine.

I wonder though, if they do make a lot of money on the Kindle books. I think Amazon's big picture goal is to become a giant in e-publishing, with exclusives from authors. That means it's in their best interest to give that stuff away, for sure.

Well, if the average consumer works like me then they probably do make money. When I see sales, I rarely think of it as an opportunity to get the one item I wanted for less. I see it as an opportunity to stock up. I assume I'll be the same with the less expensive e-books. Why buy one for less when I could get 2, 3, or even 4 for the same price of the 1 book I used to treat myself to.

I got to see the kindle in action when I went on my trip. The person sitting next to me had it on the plane. So neat.

hey, ilander & everyone, a friend told me a similar rumor this morning. only she specified "Black Friday Deal: Limited number of previous gen Kindle (same E Ink as current Nook) for just $89! Deal starts 11/26 at 9 am PST. on www.amazon.com""

so, i'm wondering, if this is true (that it will be previous gen), should i attempt to go for this deal? or stick with the current one at $139? opinions??

This is a great question...

A couple of months ago, right before K3 was launched, Amazon shipped a bunch of K2's off to Woot.com and had the $89.00 deal on them so I wouldn't be shocked if they offer something like that on Black Friday.

K2 is a great device, nothing wrong with it at all. You do get various advantages with the K2--such as a proven model, meaning less problems. I've had to send back 3 K3's since the launch due to various problems (eInk smudge on the screen, casing separating from the screen, and freezing). Amazon has been amazing about "making it right" but with the K2, all the kinks have been worked out. With the K2, you also get the 3g and Wifi standard.

Another perk is that many, many companies who create the accessories for the Kindle have red-tagged their K2 accessories. Brand new cases that retailed for $80+ are now going for like $30.00.

However, with that said, when I did get the K3 I still had my K2. I did the typical side-by-side...and there is a highly noticeable difference between the K2 and the K3 in the quality of the eInk. If you've never had an eReader before this probably won't rock your world, but it makes reading easier with the crisp, vibrant font. The smaller size of the K3 is wonderful for marathon reading, carrying about and what not. The features the K3 offer are awesome, for instance, collections. Collections are brilliant, no longer do you have 17 page turns worth of books, you can organize and separate into neat little categories.

You honestly can't go wrong either way.

Oh...and Tgal...you can sign up with Amazon to get recommendation perks. I think I remember hearing about this a while ago. You can earn free books and stuff based on how many people imput your name when buying a Kindle.

You said everything I was going to say. K2 is worth it at that price for now. Btw, you can do collections with K2...they sent the software to K2 owners.

Interesting info about the recommendation perks. If anyone would like to use me as a referral and get me a bonus, please use my name. I don't want to post my actual name, but you can email me at [email protected] and I'll give it to you.

(seriously, I'm kidding.)

lulu, my only concern is that with a K2, at some point it may not be supported. But if you could get it for $89 or $99, my guess is gen 4 will be ever lower in price point again, so you can upgrade at that time. K2 with 3G is worth it for sub 100. That's my opinion...I'd totally do K2 and find a discounted case to tide you over.
