A few years ago, my mother in law off-handedly gave my husband and me a small bag of family jewelry. Very small, super modest - her wedding band (or maybe her e-ring?) from her first marriage with marquis diamonds, a pair of small studs, and a few other pieces that had belonged to her mother and sister. They’ve sat in a drawer for awhile but I finally bought a cheap loupe and really looked at the stuff. The studs appear to be MRBs and are very included; a vintage e-ring appears to be a transitional, maybe, but it’s also super included. But there was this white gold chain with a diamond on a bail and I’m kind of in love with the diamond. It’s an OEC, I’m 90% sure - my understanding is that OECs have the prominent culet compared to transitional cut. As far as size, it appears to be similar in diameter to my .5ct MRB.
I’ve also only recently understood what kozibe means and HOLY KOZIBE I see why everyone thinks it’s so cool. How neat to see through my own loupe! It’s not the greatest camera set up but:
This poor diamond is also included and flea-bitten around the girdle but I’m smitten with the way the culet and the inclusions interact, like this:
But oh, those prongs. ::cringe::
I wore the necklace exactly once and snapped the chain before the day was out. So, I think my plan is to put this in a sliding bezel in white gold - in addition to a chain repair or replacement. Stay tuned!
