I hope somebody here would have helpful advise about my ring.
I had a solid gold ring custom-made for me, with an opal that is very precious to me. I was there with every step of the project, from the wax to trying on the (rough) ring after it came back from casting, etc. and everything turned out perfect, or so I thought. I have worn the ring everyday almost two weeks now though and I noticed it feels loose at times. It doesn't come off without being slipped off my middle finger but I'm worried those days when there is no 'struggle' over my knuckle, so to speak. I cannot move it to any other fingers for a better fit or even my left hand (I wear my wedding set for that).
I spoke with the jeweller and maybe the ring fits looser when the inside of the ring was being polished/finished(?) but unfortunately, I don't want to risk damaging the opal if he applies sizing beads/dots (which he fears may happen) and removing the opal to do any repair is extremely hard to pull off. Apart from those rubber tubes that you can fit on the base of the shank, is there anything else I can do? I was thinking of maybe getting a smaller/flat ring made specifically to fit under the ring for those days I want it slightly tighter. I want a temporary fix that won't require any heat applied to the ring. Would soft-soldering help me?
Any advise would be helpful. I just want to keep enjoying the ring without any fear of it being too loose.
