I''m not much of a photographer, but I do like to take pictures of the fall colors. Here''s one taken in my back yard, our Sassafras trees are more of a vivid yellow than last year.

The pic looked pretty good before I resized it down to 86k. Digital resolution and file size still confuses the heck out of me.

Our dogwoods seem to be more red this year, too. Last year I swear they never got much color (except for brown). It was dry last year and I suspect the lack of rain kept the trees for turning color and also kept them from blooming this Spring.

Purdy!

Our leaves aren't close to peak. Also, it's not going to be spectacular with all the leaves that fell during Isabel.

But, I can enjoy yours!

yummy....I live the way red maples turn, the wonderfully rich tones of orange through maroon (they must be Virginia Tech fans...) against the dark bark. There was a one I got to watch turn every year in the backyard of my House growing up in Roanoke, VA. Now I'm living near the beach a desperately miss the fall colors of the mountains.

This is my favorite tree from the house we used to live in. It is a big Japanese Maple which turns bright red in the fall. These maples are very slow growers (that's why they are so pricey at the nursery). This one was originally grown from a seed by the guy who lived across the street. He gave it to the original builder of the house as a present some 40+ years ago. I don't miss the house, but I do miss the tree. As a going away present that same neighbor gave me a 5-year old Japanese Maple to take to my new house. It is not even knee high! I planted it in front of the house. Hopefully it will mature like the one in the pic before I die.

Beautiful pictures, R/A! What kind of camera do you use? I'm thinking of upgrading my Sony, which has 2.1 MP.

Part of our drive. Looks romantic, but what a pain to deal with at this time of the year.

hey KM

My camera is an low-end Kodak which I think has a measley 1 MP. I'm thinking about upgrading as well.

I'm hoping somebody can fill me in on the reason some 100k pics are sharp and some 100k pics are poor. I always think mine look poor. I suppose the quality of the lens and other internals makes a big difference as well as the pixel count.

many people make the mistake of using their "digital" zoom. which in effect is useless. it just "zooms" in on the picture, which just pixelates it in the end. when you move from real zoom, ie changing of lens size or distance, to digital "zoom" which is the camera taking a portion of the picture and "blowing it up" cause many to be unhappy with their picture quality.

also,
if your camera takes image files and automatically converts them to .jpeg files, you will lose image clarity immeadiatly in exchange for file size. every time you attempt to open and change or save it, it will reduce its quality as well...

and I quote........

"Poems are made by fools like me

But only G-d can make a tree"

Fall always reminded me of that line!

Our Fall colors are coming in just fine this year...green!
