Hi guys,

Sorry I haven''t posted in a while. I''ve been busy managing my mother''s illness and all that goes with that. This site has been a real help getting my mind on to "happy stuff" and I thank you all for that! Anyhow, I had my studs remounted into leverbacks. The jeweler was not sure it would work with such a thin wire, but I wanted them as thin as possible. They are 1 c each and I hadn''t seen anything like it --so I just "did it" and they were very accomodating. It''s a simple look, but I think it looks especially good with my hair up. (More incentive to keep growing out my hair!) Thought I''d share. My pictures are awful, but you get the idea.

It looks great. Does yours tend to turn to the side? I think my ear holes aren''t straight or something because the stone never faces me. I had to tweak the wire so that I can see the stones face on.

How did you know? You are so right! I have one that faces "the right way" and the other is like at a right angle!! Drives me crazy!! I hadn''t thought of bending them... great idea, thanks!

Oh julia, I LOVE them! Simply stunning.

Good for you for "going for it"!

And I''m glad to see you posting, you are always on my mind.

Your earrings are beautiful! Thanks for sharing!

I love the earrings. They are PERFECTION.

I hope your mom gets better.

pretty!

These are gorgeous. I was looking at studs but wanted something a little dangly but still simple enough for every day. These are perfect! Leverbacks solves the problem of painful screwposts too!

Thanks for sharing!

Julia, I hope your mom gets better.

Your leverback earrings are really pretty. My earrings do the same thing too. Earrings on my right ear hang lower and turn sideways. I like when I find studs with the posts on the top of the earrings because I put the one on my right ear upside down then my ears match.

Enjoy your sparkly earrings.

I love it! If you don''t mind me asking...how involved was this project? Like, how many new pieces did the jeweler have to order to complete this project? Was it expensive?

Also, I''m so sorry to hear about you mom. Best wishes in a quick recovery.

I wish I could write to each of you individually because you each brought such joy to me reading tonight. I''m exhausted. I just got mom to bed. Tomorrow I have to move her to a nursing facilty because her memory has become so poor-I can''t leave her alone. Also tomorrow she will go on the patch, because she can''t smoke where she''s going. Heaven help us. Lot''s of changes, and with the help of the hospice nurse, aid, and social worker, it has evolved to this. I can''t say enough good things about hospice. It''s just so sad, but at the same time I''m trying to be positive around her to get her excited about seeing people her age and joking about their cooking being better than mine, etc etc. I just HAVE to be strong.

This earring project required ordering the leverbacks and the little circle parts and the baskets. I wasn''t charged anything because the studs I originally got from them didn''t feel right--I felt like the martinis were drilling into my holes (difficult to explain, but I just felt like they were not going to work out for me). I especially wanted the diamonds to swing freely (not attached to the leverbacks static like) so the light would bounce when they "jiggle." I love looking at them in the rear view mirror of the car. Oh well. So much for little thrills!

And Ellen, thanks.

They''re absolutely beautiful! So sorry to hear about the difficulties with your mom.

Julia it is nice to see you post again and I love the look of your new leverback earrings! They look so elegant and sophisticated and yet simple and classic at the same time. Seems like a great solution since the martini studs didn''t work out for you. And by the way you have my prayers and my most sincere sympathy for what you are going through with your mom. I have had elderly parent issues myself so I truly understand.

Julia I hope all goes well tomorrow! Hopefully your mother will adjust to her new home.

I remember when you said that you were dealing with some of the same kind of issues. I''t''s weird, isn''t it? Our parents are extensions of ourselves yet apart. A funny and unexpected feeling, becoming the parent of the parent. I feel like I''m sending a child off to summer camp or the first day of school. I''m writing her name in all of her clothes and promising to visit every day.

Well, she did say she looked forward to Bingo and Scrabble with people. Things have a way of working out.

I''m just going to have to get used to the errie silence once the 24/7 oxygen machine goes out of the house.

Well, sorry to be morose. I hate being morose! Here''s to things working out for both of us.

Indeed!! Hope that goes well....

I have seriously been thinking about starting a thread on caring for the elderly, a place where we can talk freely, exchange ideas, etc. Do you think that''s a good idea? Let me know.

And you are most welcome Julia.

One more time, I LOVE those earrings. I want some! *stomps foot*

Oooh, JJ, those are marvelous! I love the idea of their movement and I think they look perfect on you!

Julia, I''m so sorry to hear about your Mom. I do hope she is able to do well in the nursing facility. I love lever back earrings and yours are just gorgeous!!!!! I love that they allow the stones to dangle just a bit and they are perfect for every day wear. Pls enjoy your new earrings!

Don''t apologize for being morose, you obviously have a lot on your plate right now. It is hard when one day you find yourself as the parent and your parent has become more like a child. You have to make hard decisions that nobody likes and you have to come to terms with the fact that you can''t make your parent happy because the only way to do that is to bring back the past. Now I''m being morose so Ellen maybe we do need a new thread. I don''t want to take away from these lovely earrings!!!

They look lovely! You really suit that style. Congrats - hope they bring you a little sunshine! So sorry to hear about your Mom.

Jen

Thank you again everyone. Well, it''s been "an adventure or nothing day" in that the move to another place is now out. Seems she is on a fairly new drug that has halted the lung cancer, but since it is so new and "experimental" it is mega (we are talking almost 4K per month) expensive, and the nursing home won''t take her (met her max with room and board and medicaire has a cap). Can you imagine?

I went to see two other private places, which neither meet my expectations. Too loud, too absolutely no go''s. Back to square one.
I''d love a thread on elderly issues Ellen, if anyone is interested. We could exchange stories, issues, etc. Surely there are other ps''ers in these shoes.

Well, my brother will be in town tomorrow and is going to help put up a couple of ceiling fans and screen in a front and back porch. I figure I will make the best of things and create a haven for all of us. Personal space being a priority for me right now.
And, Sundial, it is very difficult to keep them in the present, isn''t it? Dealing w/ loss of a spouse, career, money, meds, worrying about things that can''t be changed, old roles, etc. So much more than meets the eye.

Julia, I''ll try to start one in the next couple days. I believe there may be many on here who are dealing with this.

I''m so sorry.
