Do you guys remember I had a poll for a spessartite to decide on the color of gold a while ago?
Well, here's a deja vu post...
I have another garnet I want to set and I'd appreciate your opinion on gold color again!
Here it goes...this is a light brown-orange-peach garnet which is ummm very hard to photograph, which is not surprising for a garnet of this color.

And because it's a garnet, I can make turn on fluorescent light and make it photograph bad, like this. But my eyes simply do no see this much brown even under fluorescent light source.

Not sure how many pics I can insert in one post, and my pictures have been uploading huuuge, so I'm gonna post the rest of pics in the following posts.

Gorgeous! I vote for green, yellow or rose gold. IMO, it needs gentle warmth because it’s a subtle, delicate color.

OK! so I quite like this color...it doesn't disappear on my skin like you might expect. I have that problem with light pink spinels and light pink sapphires, but luckily not this one. I am considering setting it in an all gold setting with no diamonds and am considering 18K YG and 14K YG.....maybe RG if you think it will be nice in RG. And oh, I am gonna be purchasing from Ivy and Rose.

I actually have 14K YG already from Ivy and Rose, so know what their 14K YG is like!

My spess ring says hi! =)2

OK so that's how it looks against 14K YG. Their 14K YG is quite pale, like champagne. I think it photographed quite yellow (too strong) in those pictures. But in real life it can even pass for 10K I think. Very silvery. I think it will "match" the level of saturation of the stone. Both have softer colors. So that's 14K YG.

Hehe Bluegemz, thanks! you have fast fingers!!! I was thinking of 14K YG (it sort of looks like weak green gold I think!), 18K YG, or RG (no idea on K). And I agree it needs a colored gold, it will die in white gold and that is a surefire way of making it look like that fluorescent pic all the time.

I love the gentle warmth of that 14k yellow gold! Rose gold would also be lovely!

And here goes 18K YG

These are rope bands that I wear all the time because I am silly and size my rings a lot bigger than my fingers. I can shake off all my rings no problem. I have to wear these so I don't lose the rings!

I don't know if you can tell, but they have subtly different colors, with the ring finger ring being more "brighter greenish yellow" and the middle one being less so.

I grew up around a lot of what might be called today "red gold", or Italian gold possibly??? So the first time I ordered projects in 18K YG I was shocked to see "green modifier" in my golds! I was sure they were mis-stamped and was sure they were lower karat stuff. Anyways I am now used to that bright greenish yellow color of 18K YG that is very common in North America and assume Ivy Rose's 18K YG looks similar to that as opposed to the red gold I prefer.

And all 18K YG here, with varying levels of "green-ness" in them. They all look pretty "green" still to my eyes.

And I apologize....the only pic I could manage w RG was w my RG chain.

I don't know if it's just me but I feel like RG is not flattering on my hands. I actually had two rings custom set in RG, one mint garnet and a red spinel, and I had to get them unmounted....I don't know but the allows were maybe not the greatest looking with my skin color. I am curious to know what you think of RG on my skin. Can I still continue to do RG? Or it's not flattering. I also feel like the pic I am posting is not the kindest to the stone....doesn't show it in its best light.

Definitely vote for yellow gold now. 18k is beautiful. I can imagine either with a green modifier or ‘red gold’ would be beautiful!

Beautiful stone and beautiful hands too! I prefer the 18Kyellow gold best. Love the green modifier.
I'm not a fan of the rose gold with that stone. It blends in too much IMO vs complementing it if that makes sense.

Aw thanks missy!
I agree rose gold doesn't look good and the stone disappears into it. I like the bright yellow golds with the green tinge as well. It's a bolder look compared to red or peach gold. I thought maybe the 18K color might be too strong and contrasting for the stone, but now I am thinking I might do 18K YG.

That garnet is gorgeous and a great size! I think the 14k yellow gold looks lovely and complements the gem nicely. I feel like the rose gold blends into the stone in a way that is not complementary and looks bland.

I like the Ivy and Rose color YG very much. It doesn’t overpower the stone. Lovely garnet! It looks beautiful with your long fingers.

Gorgeous color garnet. I like it best with yellow gold.

@Burmesedaze, @Hivona, @MissyBeaucoup and @marcy

Thank you very much for chiming in ladies! I really appreciate it. You guys make it so easy! I tend to waffle a lot when left to my own devices on these things.

Looks like yellow gold is the majority opinion. I haven't decided on which setting to get yet but am pretty certain it's gonna be no diamonds, just some metal framing the stone. Like those octagone settings for rounds. I've been meaning to get an octagon setting for years so this would probably end up being that.

I vote for YG! RG brings out the brown tone too much.

Yellow gold! It’s such a pretty garnet? Is it a hessonite, grossular garnet, or something else entirely?

I love the colour of your garnet. I thought I’d prefer rose gold with it from your description, but seeing the pics yellow is definitely my favourite. Can’t wait to see it set!

It's a hessonite! I wanted to get one that is as orange as possible in hessonite. But the yellow hessonites are pretty as well and I want to get a big big big yellow one too. The Sri Lankan ones have a very interesting look that is described as "scotch in water".

Beautiful stone! I love the colour combined with your skintone. The YG gives more contrast compared to your skintone and in combination with your stone. I love all the YG combinations.

LOVE your stone! I think it looks good naked. :P2

Have you considered unplated WG? It’s not going to compete with your skin colour not the stone, yet adds a bit of warmth.

YG gets my vote

Um I think I am going to have to go custom with this one. I picked a $225 stock mount that fits a 8mm stone. Mine is 8.9mm. I got a quote to have it made to fit my stone and the total came to $598 after shipping, resizing and setting fees. Um that mount is not worth $600. Mind you it's a cast setting made w thin 14k metal no melee. I am gonna pay more and get it custom set.

Yes I love unlated WG and keep wanting to use it for projects. Now that I am not using Ivy and Rose I might just go in a diff direction and explore unplated WG. The key thing is finding the right alloy as some WG i feel like looks grey (I dun like that!) rather than creamy. And the WG is so stiff I am afraid the stone will shatter or something when the goldsmith tries to set it. The stone has a fair bit of inclusions.

It’s a nice hessonite! I like the yellow hessonites as well.
