Thanks to fellow PS member gemandjewelrylover for telling us about this link.
You won't find every Argyle diamond in the database and here's some explanation.
Argyle colored diamonds have a pecking order:
1. Argyle Tender stones, the best 50 or so Pink, Red, Violet and Blue diamonds of the mine's annual output. They are auctioned privately.
2. FCDs that got both an Argyle serial number laser inscribed on the girdle, AND an Argyle certificate.
3. FCDs that got an Argyle serial number inscribed, but no certificate.
4. FCDs that came from Argyle mine but got no laser inscription, serial number, or Argyle certificate. I've been told by a top expert in the field that he can tell by the exact hue of the pink whether it came from Argyle or another mine so level 4 may be a good value as I believe a status premium is added to the FCDs in the 3 higher levels.
Also, the level assigned also depends on when it was mined.
I have a 0.27 ct. Fancy Deep Purplish Pink VVS1 Emerald cut with a GIA report date of 1-20-09.
Back then it was only good enough to earn a laser inscribed Argyle serial number, but no certificate.
Today the mine's output has declined to a point where even some brown radiant diamonds are getting both a serial number laser inscribed AND a certificate.
Apparently only Argyle FCDs that got a certificate after 2009 are in the database above.
