Little Mozambique ruby

I have a setting that needed a 6x4mm gem and have always fancied a ruby, but am on a very limited budget. I picked this one up on eBay (yes, I know) from a random person having a clear-out, seemingly of an elderly relative's possessions, for a very low price so it doesn't matter if it's worthless, but am just curious as to whether it has any value beyond being (I think) quite pretty! It's a 0.56ct Mozambique ruby, with a report from a (genuine but not well-recognised) European lab saying unheated and untreated.

Here is the seller photo in a plastic gem box behind cellophane packaging... I will post better shots once received.

Could you share the lab?

It's AnchorCert.

I'd say enjoy it if you love it and don't dig too deeply into whether it is a ruby and its treatment.

Good advice. I will consider it just a pretty and inexpensive bauble!

Yes, it's going in a platinum classic 3-stone ring with 2x 0.16ct heart-shaped diamond sides. The existing centre stone is a 6x4mm sapphire that I find too dark, and I'm getting a much nicer sapphire ring as a late anniversary gift, so I don't think I will ever reach for this as it is. Whereas with a different colour centre I think it will make a nice alternative option!

You’re fine with Anchor Cert. they were the lab that confirmed an “Alex” I bought and suspected was synthetic. They are used in the UK a lot. Not sure whether they have limitations in terms of equipment. My memory is hazy but I seem to remember that they were merging 2 labs about 10 or more years ago to allow them to offer more services. They are definitely trustworthy but as I said I don’t know if there are limitations to what they can do.

Oh, that's good to hear LD!

To be honest, I don't actually mind if it's synthetic. I'd be more keen to know if it's genuine but had extensive treatments which mean I need to treat it carefully. I have a habit of cleaning my jewellery (all platinum / diamond / untreated sapphire) with freshly boiled water and washing up liquid :???:

I'm really pleased! I am not a good photographer, but this is the best I can do. It looks more red in real life than in the photo, it's pretty and sparkly, well saturated with no visible inclusions. At 6x4mm it is of course tiny but looks like it will fit perfectly in the setting I bought it for. At the price I paid I don't really mind what it is..!
