So ladies, here is a question for you...how long have you really been waiting? I think this comes in two parts (for me anyway!)

1. How long ago did you realize your BF was the one you wanted to marry?

2. How long has it been since you were completely ready for the ring?

Just thought I would throw this out there, since we talk about how long we''ve been dating our SOs but not how long we''ve been "in waiting".

good question!

#1. two years, six months and one day

#2. it''s hard to say. to be honest, i don''t remember ever thinking to myself "i''m not ready" since then. and i know that there have been many moments since then when i''ve thought to myself "wow, i am so ready to be his wife"....but i don''t really recall any specific moment when i realized i was ready.

BF and I been dating for 6 years, I''d say I''ve been ready for about 4 of those. :)

Yes, good question!

1) I knew since August 06
2) Been waiting for the ring since December 06

I suppose a six-month wait isn''t too bad...

1. How long ago did you realize your BF was the one you wanted to marry? 2.5 years...I knew right away that he WAS THE ONE! It was so simple...I just knew :)

2. How long has it been since you were completely ready for the ring? 1 year...as college comes to an end...and as he graduated...and we both moved...I have become more and more anxious. The feeling of I really want it to be now...has been since this past spring. But ready for a ring for about a year :)

1. The day we met.
2. 4 months ago.

Lol I forgot to answer my own question!

1. I have known since last summer, I would say.

2. I have been ready to make it happen since the spring, April maybe? So 4 months? Doesnt sound like long, but it feels like it! Especially with no end in sight. Sigh.

We''ve known each other for about a year and a half but have only dated for 11 months...almost there! We both knew within 2-3 months of dating each other that what we had was special and we''ve been looking at/for rings officially since then.

I feel like I''ve been ready to marry him all my life. I never envisioned myself married before him.

Oooh, those are good questions! Let''s see...

1. About a month in, I realized how completely different he was to the others guys I''d dated before. I tried to keep my feet on the ground with it, but I did end up daydreaming about us ending up together and living in England and how romantic it all would be (that was before the reality of a hugely long-distance relationship crashed on my head
1.gif
), but yeah, it was very early on that my heart felt that way. I didn''t believe it seriously until about a year ago (he first jokingly proposed over 2 years ago), but yeah, it''s been there since the first month or so...

2. This is tricky. My heart''s been ready for the past year, maybe longer. If I took out all the realism from my head, I''d have been ready after the first month.

But taking into account my head, wel.....it insists that we live lots closer together than we do now so that we can have some regular-life time together, instead of extended-vacation time together (which is what the long-distance relationship visits feel like to me--a suspension of reality). I didn''t think I''d get into my first-choice grad school, and my 2nd choice was Manchester, where J and I could live together for the year and start our life together. Well, I *did* get into my first-choice grad school, and it would''ve been reeeeeeeally difficult to have a place for us both to live there and the funds to cover it, so we''ll still be long-distance. I''ve got long breaks from school for Christmas and Easter, and the whole program is only from October-June, and then we can rightfully live together, but I think by then we''ll probably be engaged, even though ideally we''d live together before getting engaged.

1. How long ago did you realize your BF was the one you wanted to marry?

We''ve been dating since June 2004. I knew he was the one I wanted to marry about six months after we met, in December.
2. How long has it been since you were completely ready for the ring?

I''ve probably been completely ready for the ring since last summer, June 2006. Knowing he is the one I want to marry and being ready to ACTUALLY marry are two different things for me. I was just starting my career when we met (I was only two years out of college then) and even though I''m still growing into myself, so to speak, now I''m at a point where I know I am ready to be a part of a marriage without feeling like I didn''t have time to discover myself, first. I have a lot of friends who wanted the ring as soon as they found the guy, but I''m just too slow of a mover to act that fast--I''ve really enjoyed my mid-twenties, and I wasn''t ready until just last summer to move into a different part of life.

Great post idea, Miscka!

1) I knew FF was the man i wanted to marry a few months into the relationship (at the ripe old age of 18! lol)
2) I have been ready for the ring for about a year, and waiting for that proposal is TORTURE!

I hate being a married lady left out of these threads, LOL!

1. I knew he was "the one" the night we met, when he wrapped his arm around my waist and I felt like I was "home."

2. I was ready for the ring two months later when he brought up engagement and told me he wanted to "put a gorgeous platinum ring" on my finger.

I was a "LIW" for 9 months...we dated LD for 5 months, then I moved in with him (knowing we would be married at some point, so there was where the LIW status began), so we lived together for 9 months, then he proposed, then we were engaged for another 9 months and got married 2 weeks before the anniversary of the date we met two years prior.

I knew that he was the one for me about three months into our relationship. I was only 17 but there was definitely something there and I can remember thinking I cannot see us ever splitting up.

Ive been ready for the engagement and the ring since about May of last year. It hasn''t been too bad a wait so far, but now that we have the ring, I cannot wait!

OK, here goes...

1. How long ago did you realize your BF was the one you wanted to marry?
Before we were even going out!!!
1.gif
I then waited A YEAR for him to ask me out because I knew we''d be a perfect match and I knew it would be important to him to have made the first move. He told me later I was right and he was glad I did that. It was torture at the time though!!!

2. How long has it been since you were completely ready for the ring?
About nine months now

Oh, this is a good one!

1) I don''t think we really entertained the idea of getting married seriously until about 2.5 years in, last summer. The "oh man I think this is it" didn''t really sink in solidly until, I guess March or April. I really don''t believe in this "the one" stuff, so I don''t mind having just plain regular dated for that long without hoping for more.

2) I don''t think I really count as "waiting" since from the get-go I knew it wasn''t going to happen until 2008 and I''ve told him he probably should wait until I turn 22 and/or hit the 4 year mark first (both didn''t happen yet) as to decrease the chance of people yelling at me that I''m ruining my life
20.gif
Though pretty much if it wasn''t for that, I guess if he did it anytime from this May on I''d have said yes with the only hesitation being the age/length thing (I have two older cousins who have both been dating their girlfriends for NINE YEARS, so I really want it to be "their turn" first!)

1. How long ago did you realize your BF was the one you wanted to marry?

We started going out at the end of July 2003. I knew he was the one for me in April 2004 on our first trip away together in Prague.
2. How long has it been since you were completely ready for the ring?

I went travelling around the world for 3 months with my girlfriends in September 2006. I''ll never forget the physical pain I felt leaving him at the airport. Lots of tears from both of us...an old lady even gave him some tissues on his way out of the airport!
When I got back in December 2006 I was ready to go ring shopping. I just knew that this is the man I was going to marry. And we got engaged on August 4th 2007, nearly 4 years to the day of our first date.

1. About ten months
2. This past march... so not too long... but that just makes it so much worse because that means the big E is sooo much further away!

1. A few months into the relationship. We met in Sept 1999.

2. This is a hard one. We dated for 6 years, and I was ready probably around the 4th year. Then he didn''t know if he wanted marriage and kids so we broke up. One year later we got back together (since he knows now 100% he wants kids and marriage with ME, yay!) and we talked of getting engaged as soon as his house sold. So I was ready a second time back in February 07 when we got back together.
