Hi does anyone have any experience of buying a ring from LOGR and having it valued at a higher value than the cost price? I have recently bought a wedding/eternity band with 1.88c of round and baguette diamonds H/VS, in 14k white gold. I paid £550 on ebay auction and have yet to have it appraised/valued in the United Kingdom. The diamonds however look much smaller in person than logr photos and i am dubious that it does in fact weigh 1.88c. Can anyone advise please?

I doubt very much that it weighs less than 1.88ct. LOGR wouldn''t have stayed in business for as long as they have if they were skimping on the diamonds. What isn''t generally accurate is their description of colour/clarity. That can vary enormously from piece to piece - unless you upgrade and then you tend to get what you''ve paid for.

A good way to have a very quick estimate is to measure the length and width of the stones (presumably they''re mostly the same) and then use half the length as an indication of the depth (presumably you can''t see the depth?). Then put the statistics into here and you should get an idea how much 1 baguette weighs, then you can simply multiply it. It''s very rough and very crude but should help you to get a better idea.

Generally speaking, LOGR''s settings are very difficult to price match elsewhere and do offer good value for money. I''m not sure that their value however will be significantly greater. For insurance purposes yes.

hi thanks for your reply, don''t think i have done the weight estimate correctly. The baguettes measure 1mm width and 2mm length, and there is approx 20, and im not sure about the round as they are small pave set diamonds. I didnt upgrade the diamonds as they were vs already and wasnt too bothered about whiter than H.

I get it valued next week and ill let you know. Im sure it must be worth more as over here in the uk for a 1ct baguette and round ring from my local jeweller, although in 18k gold, is approx £800 and thats in the sale, G in colour and SI clarity. Or maybe im a bit dim when it comes to diamonds lol.

Mmmmm well that doesn't sound right - unless there are tons of pave diamonds????? I've just done a comparison for you. This is my ring. It's 0.62ct of diamonds and there are 35 baguettes, each sized 2.3 x 1.2 mm. This is only in 9ct white gold and 3.5g in weight but the diamonds are VS and F/G in colour. I paid £320 (and I'm in the UK also).

Do you have a link to the setting you bought?

EDIT: Is it this one? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BAGUETTE-DIAMOND-14K-WHITE-GOLD-WEDDING-BAND-RING_W0QQitemZ220590894042QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Wedding_Bands_with_Diamonds_Gemstones?hash=item335c3debda

Yes, that''s the one I linked to earlier. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220590894042&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.co.uk%3A80%2F%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp3984.m570.l1313%26_nkw%3D220590894042%26_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1

My ring didn''t come from LOGR by the way! I bought it in the UK.

No. I wouldn''t bother for a ring that only cost me £300 because it will be covered under my main insurance and wouldn''t need to be specified. I only have items valued where they''ll be over £2k (or slightly less). In any event, its real worth is not likely to be more than about £600-650ish.

Be careful when you talk about valuations. If you go into a jewellers in the UK you''ll get a valuation for insurance purposes. These are ALWAYS higher than the cost or worth of the actual item because they value it by (a) the gram weight of the gold (b) the carat of gold (c) the weight of the diamonds (d) the colour/clarity of the diamonds and (e) most importantly, the cost to make it from scratch - which always adds in a premium because most rings are made in bulk.

If you want a proper insurance valuation have a look at Safeguard http://www.theassayoffice.co.uk/safeguard/fsved.php. They''re the valuation arm of the Birmingham Assay Office and they have a team of highly experienced valuers all over the country that visit High Street jewellers and do valuation days. Typically it''s around £45 for the first item and then £30 for each item thereafter but you get an A4 sheet for each item that gives a detailed description and photo. They also test gemstones (within limits) if they want to make sure that the Ruby is a Ruby for example. Valuations from Safeguard are very rarely queried by insurance companies in the case of loss (High Street jewellers''s valuations are more often challenged). They would most definitely be able to calculate the weight of the diamonds in your ring.

Hope that helps.

Hi great thanks. Its the 1st time i have bought from an online jeweller, my engagement ring was from Laing and my wedding ring from a designer in Eaglesham, by Glasgow. The designer is going to have a look and give me a verbal opinion next week for free, as im having my other rings re-rhodium plated.

Hi i have returned the ring to logr as the baguette diamonds were significantly different sizes and made the ring look uneven, he also sent it in the wrong size. His sizes is marked wrong from us sizes to uk sizing.
