Hello,

Have a big anniversary coming up and hubby wants me to pick something out. (It works better that way, we've learned! :) )

I'm THINKING about this Victor Canera toi et moi ring.

I'm looking at this cushion stone that he has for the ring

I would greatly appreciate any and all thoughts, critiques, suggestions that you might have.

Thank you!

What a lovely choice for both ring and stone! I am no expert, so I’ll leave it to others to make wiser comments on the stone, but I love this choice. The design reminds me of 2 people having a cuddle. What will you do for the pear?

Thank you! I thought the same thing about the cuddle lol. Hubby is the cushion with the soft edges, and I'm the pear with the pointy edge :) I have not looked at pears yet, was maybe thinking Victor would pick a good match? Not sure, though, as I have never communicated with him.

When I see that beautiful cushion I want it to be the star on its own stage or maybe flanked by some smaller underlings of the same variety like this:73D7176B-019C-47B7-9B31-4E1CAE1B68E5.jpeg
I like a toi et moi with two pears and other combination, but something about this particular combination of shapes turns it into a competition, and the cushion ends up looking like a bully. I think it's the large facets vs splintery facets that doesn't work for me. Just my 2 cents...as he slowly backs away.

Thank you! That trilogy was on my list as well :)I've really always wanted a pear too, though.

I love this ring, I just think that the 2 carat cushion is too large for a 1 carat pear. The large antique facets on the cushion just exacerbates the difference. You would have to play around a bit, but I think a smaller cushion (maybe 1.75ct) and a larger pear (maybe 1.25ct and leaning toward the chubbier side vs long) would look more balanced.

Just my 2 cents.

Okay that cushion! I'm currently waiting on my new EC ring, but a beautiful antique cushion like this has long been on my wish list. I am not an expert on cushions, so I'll leave that to smarter people than I, but I love the chunky facets!

I also am loving the toi et moi trend right now but I echo a lot of the thoughts here - that cushion feels too *special* to be in a toi et moi ring. First (as others said) the size of it feels like it should be the star of the show and second, because it's an antique cut with chunky facets, I wonder if the pear's facets would not "match" well. Can you do the cushion separately (as a solitaire in an antique type setting or in a 3 stone?) and then maybe a pear and a colored stone in a toi et moi like this?toi et moi.jpg

Either way I'd recommend at least trying on a toi et moi ring in person because while they're so fun, they are very unique and might not be for everyone.

Thank you for your very thoughtful response. You've given me a lot to think about, and I really appreciate it! Good luck with your new ring. :)

@Tryna congrats on the upcoming anniversary, and good on your husband for this plan!

I am really digging moi et toi rings! I also love pears and have been contemplating a similar ring one day, with a modern cut cushion.

Pears generally face up bigger, so you can probably go with a lower carat weight than the cushion and end up with a ring that looks proportional, you just need to pay attention to the dimensions and overall look you are going for.

Since the cushion is antique style, I wonder if you might be able to find an antique pear to go with it? That would probably take some patience, but I've seen some adorable, fat antique pears that I died over.

One thing I worry about a little is the likely difference in light performance, as the CAC is specifically designed for ideal performance and other fancy shapes like pears and ovals usually don't have that kind of performance (although beautiful and with other positive attributes!).

I wonder if Rhino has any pear cut diamonds with antique style faceting like his heritage oval!

Maybe 2 smaller pears as side stones?
