Looking at a few stones from GOG... does actual look of stone increase cost?

I''m a newbie to the diamonds industry but have had to learn as i''m looking for an e-ring. I''m currenlty looking for a 1.00 to 1.20c Princess cut that is around $5000 to $6000. I have found a few stones on GOG but their prices seem to be about 5 to 600 above all others i''m comparing to that have almost identical specs. From what i have read, they hand pick only the best stones with great cuts. Would this alone increase the cost over another diamond that doesn''t look as good visually? I''m willing to pay the extra for the costumer service support of a local dealer that will help you out if something goes wrong without having any hassles.

Yes, you will pay for cut (better). Whether it's worth it is up to you.

But cut is what makes a diamond, more than color or clarity.

Ya, similar stats does not equate to similar optical performance, especially for fancy cuts. Those $5-600 cheaper stones might be poor performers but GOG stones are mostly top grades.

I think part of the premium will be in your feeling confident that the diamond is optimized.

It may or may not be possible that another option is as good...but you''d be hard pressed to know.

Another strategy, in the case of princesses, is to select an option anywhere with an AGS certificate with a 0 for light performance. In this case, though there''s speculation here of variation within this criteria as well, that''s tougher probably to put your finger on....

Sometimes diamond prices reflect what the cutter was charging for a particular stone. This might account for higher or lower pricing.

I'm just trying to get a feel for what really makes the price differences amongst very similiar stones.

Numbers tell you nothing about if they are similar stones.
Princess cuts cant be selected by numbers alone.
Unless you have images for each of them including ASET images followed by a visual comparison you cant know they are similar.

Can''t find exact Angara stone but stones with those specs start at at $4770 and are Very Good cut (according to Angara)

Both Blue Nile stones you found are listed as Very Good cuts (according to BN). They are not part of their "Signature Ideal" selection.

Can''t find the WF stone in their inventory.

GOG''s stone is Ideal (according to GOG). GOG is the only vender that has a photo posted.

The cost of an excellent cut with excellent polish and symmetry is going to be higher than VG and G.

These stone aren''t as similar as you might think. Although we can''t see them.
