Hello All,
While I’m no expert, I’m not a total rookie either. I’m looking to upgrade from my current 1.75 mrb. I can only bring in two diamonds at a time through my jeweler ( my upgrade policy is through them so no option for stones from other vendors). I will be viewing these in person Wednesday, but would like for the masters here to help me with the numbers ahead of time. TIA!

stone 1:
2.51 J SI1
Ex/Ex/Ex
Depth 62.1
Table 55
Crown Angle 33.0 (this worries me)
Crown height 14.5
PA 41.0
PD 43.5
HCA score .8 (I’ve read lower than 1 not the best for ER?)

stone 2:
2.02 I SI1
Ex/Ex/Ex
Depth 61.5
Table 58
Crown Angle 35.0
Crown height 15.0
PA 40.8
PD 43.0
HCA score 1.6

Obviously the 2.5 is the desired size and probably would be my forever stone but the numbers and HCA score make me worry. And it’s more expensive obviously!

The second stone is better in color and price but would it really be much difference in size from my 1.75? For me just getting up to 2 carats is appealing but 2.5 is a real game changer. The stone will be set in a platinum solitaire.

Thanks so much for any help/insight you can provide!

What color is your current diamond? J color in 2.5 cts will hold a lot of “warmth”, keep that in mind.
I love a small table so the 55 is appealing to me. I think because the angles on that are opposing it may work... the HCA is telling us that. And .8 is fine for a ring... the super ideas are often lower than 1 for HCA.
Do you have the mm measurements of these?
Can you select the one you like best between the 2 (after you view), and then have them bring in a 3rd option to compare against?

Thank you! My current stone is an I, and I do not notice any color but know that could change with a larger sized stone. The measurements for the 2.5 are:
8.68-8.71x5.40

The 2.02 are
8.06-8.12x4.98

These two stones were the only available within my budget and that passed my desired specs and HCA. If they are both no good I will be waiting until something better comes along—though that is hard to do when you have the idea in your head. ;)

Can you take photos of the new options? And do you know the specs of your existing stone?

I don’t think you will walk away from the opportunity. You will have 2 stones with various different elements and you will have to see what appeals to you more. Of course, if you feel like you are settling or don’t like as much as your current then wait until more options become available.
As @lovedogs asked, would love to know specs of current to see what flavor you are used to and what you like about it and don’t like. Also to see how much more spread in mm you will get with the smaller stone.
I can already guess you will go for the larger one. Makes the change worth it and the small table will be lovely. As long as you are okay with J and it sounds like you aren’t too concerned... the size is more the priority. Do either diamond have fluorescence?

Yes I do! My current stone is:
1.71 I color SI1
Ex/Ex/Ex
Measurements 7.61-7.63x4.78
Depth 62.8
Table 55
CA 35.0
CH 16.0
PA 40.8
PD 43.0

HCA 1.6 (I feel like this one is going to be like the 2.02 stone but maybe not.

I love the fire in my current stone! Honestly, I love it so much but with size 7 fingers DSS is real!
I am leaning toward the 2.5 but want to be smart and not make the decision emotionally charged on size, which I could see myself doing. I also know how easy it is to see it brand new, clean, and under great lighting, but that’s not how it will always appear if that makes sense.

really appreciating the help!

My current stone as faint FL as does the 2.02. The 2.5 has no FL.

OMG - The smaller stone in my avatar has the exact same proportions (but different carat weight 2.01)!!!

I don’t think the current and the smaller one will be the same as it has a larger table and lower crown height.

The way you phrased it makes me think you are not thrilled with the appearance of the current and wish to get away from that???

Just saw you are happy with current just not the size.

Oh no! I love my stone and thought if she were just over that 2.0 she’d be a dream but I truly don’t understand the way all the numbers work together so this is helping a lot. Thank you!

It would be really helpful to see pics of the 2 new options. I like the small table on the 2.5 one, but it's hard to know for sure how the 33 and 41 will look IRL because GIA rounds so it could be good or it could be less good.

Sorry, I don’t have any pictures. What would the drawbacks of the 33/41 be? Less light return or?

Leakage would be my biggest suspicion if there were to be issues. But can't really tell wihtout seeing pics.

Usually on a shallow crown you get more white light return but that small table will compensate and give you nice colored flashes. I think a 33/41 pairs up well but due to GIA rounding hard to say without images. 35/40.8 combo can be hit and miss.

your stone is stunning.

Thanks that was my worry based on the reading I did. I want fire over white light for sure.

I guess the only way is to look in person.
Thank you all!
