Best place to find these? Not looking to break the bank- just reasonably nice stones. I'm planning on making studs to wear with my IDJ diamond jackets.

I was wondering how long it would take for you to show up in Colored Stones - glad to see you made it over! Jeff Davies just had a pair he was selling - I think they were too big, but I bet he has others. Also, what about Multicolour.com? Tan on ebay might have pairs in one of his ebay stores. I'm trying to think of the less inexpensive vendors who have a lot of inventory. Right now, these are the three that come to mind. There is a sticky at the top of this page that has a listing of vetted vendors. You will find all of these guys there. There are other great vendors as well, of course, but these are the ones that have enough stock so that they are likely to have them on hand. HTH.

A couple of quick notes: For the ID jackets you have, I think you'll really want to stick with 5mm stones, not 4.5. Slightly shy of 5mm might be okay, BUT I have a pair of 4.7mm spinels and I can see a very small airline. Though small, it bothers me enough that I prefer to wear the spinels on their own and not in the jackets.

That said, for tanzanites, you should contact Jaimeen of Prima Gems (tell him I said 'hi!'). They have a webpage, but they do not list *nearly* everything they have on their webpage. They specialize in certain stones from East Africa, especially tanzanite, tsavorite, spinel, and garnets. They are a recommended vendor on this forum and many people have had good experiences with them. You'll want to be quite specific about whether you want the more medium-toned violet-leaning variety or the royal blue-violet type. His prices are fair, but he does have a wide range of quality, so at the low end, I'm sure there are some duds.

I can't think of another specific vendor that I know specializes in tanzanite, but we do have a sticky thread here with a long list of recommended vendors, so you should be able to find someone who has what you're looking for!

Thanks to you both! My diamond studs are only like 4.2 so there is an airline and I'm kinda ok with it, so depending on price I'd probably be ok with 4.5 mm. Also probably going to have Daniel M set them in 8 prong settings if they are smaller so that may help too. I'll check out those vendors!

Just a thought - keep in mind that the tanzis will darken up a bit once set (depending upon how closed the setting is), and also be careful not to have too much of the stone covered by prongs. Definitely discuss with Daniel M. :))

Misskitty,
The first one posted is light in tone and could be a good candidate for earrings. The second pair is very gray and I would not recommend them as they will darken in an unattractive way in earrings.

Thanks Chrono. That was my feeling too, but as I don't know the OP's budget or preferences on colour I thought I would give her the options. I think the more expensive ones are quite lovely (if they are what they claim).

So glad we have experts like you on hand to keep us all on the straight and narrow ;)

And a disclaimer - I haven't dealt with the supplier, I was just looking for something else and stumbled across them.

Thanks! I am working with Prima Gems - they are waiting to get new stones in in a few weeks. I will post back when I find something!

Great news! Let us know how you get on!
