Title says it all! I'm looking for a roughly 4mm well cut round brilliant diamond. I'd toy with the idea of an old cut, it just has to be pretty well round (I'm weird, need symmetry). Color is fine to be a little warm, but would like to keep it at I or better, eye clean too. ::)

I think you will find jewelers like BGD and WF will help you. Good luck.

I suspect she has posted here because she is wanting to avoid the retail price tag that comes with BGD and WF. :wink2:

I have a ~4mm+ stone. I was told it was 0.4ct-ish when I bought it. It's edge-to-edge bright, and good for an earring or a pendant. It's eye clean, and with a 10x loupe, you can see some tiny, non-blatant inclusions on the edge. I'd say it's comparable to my VS2's. Colorwise, I'll need to pop by my jeweler's to get a better grip, but I can show you comparisons next to my GIA F if you'd like.

Ignore the darkness, this is using a Olloclip on my phone, so it's reflecting the black as I was only a few millimeters away from the stone:

If you're interested, I will create a LT listing, and get more info for you from my jeweler during the week. :))

Hello ladies!

Sorry I didn't pop back in after my post. Yes, I'm definitely looking to avoid the retail price tag. ;)) I might end up going w/BN but would rather try here first. :)

Madelise, I'm interested if it's 4mm! I doubt your seller was right though about the carat weight. :(( .40 should be almost 5mm if it's well cut.

That said, it might actually be closer to 5mm and just was hard to measure while set. That'd be better for you but wouldn't fit my setting.

I'm scattered because it's stupidly busy here but will be back for a more proper follow up! As a side note, this is for a ring refurb. I'd hoped the sapphires would work but I've come to realize that it's going to be way too dark. If I can't find a diamond, I'll start hunting for a much lighter/brighter colored stone alternative (would actually be my preference, but seems harder to find than a diamond since 1/4 cts are so plentiful!

Looks like Freke's sold but I wouldn't have wanted to tear it apart anyhow, it's beautiful!

You should try ID Jewelry! They have very very (and I mean very) affordable 1/4 carat stones. I just bought two from them that was a total of $500 but that's because they're F VS2....I'd call Yuki and he'll find you exactly what you're looking for!

Wow that IS fantastic, thank you for the tip!

I have another, Tammy. There is the yellow gold one and then the white gold one I listed last night on my Feelers thread.

Hi Freke,

Thank you for the heads up but I'm really trying to find one that's loose so I don't have to take it out of a setting and to just buy what I need. We'll see how long that lasts though!

Sure! Here's an example:

If it's a bit too much, call him and believe me he will work with you! This one's a *hair* deep, but otherwise looks great and it's GIA certified.

Here's a .27 G SI2 from an ebay vendor that I and others have used several times. He also generally has other stones that aren't listed if you have a specific request, including OMC/OEC.

Ohhh not bad! I like the idea of free shipping and no tax too. I'll have to add the seller to my favorites to keep an eye if this one sells before I decide. Thanks!! :) I think I'm going to try to stick to cert'd or ones that I can fairly easily tell that they're well cut by viewing the arrows. The ID jewelry link is also an incredible deal. It's going to be hard to decide. :lickout:

Thank you to everyone for the suggestions!!!

BGD and WF retail? Go pay a visit to Tiffany's or Cartier, now that is retail.

OP: BN is a competitor of BGD and WF

Thank you, I'm actually very familiar with BN. My DH bought my ER diamond from them and while many on PS steer people away from them, we had a very positive experience. That's why I'm likely to consider them again. :)) That said, ID's prices look better for similar quality, so I'm not against using them instead. This is a small RHR project, I'm sure I'll find something lovely without spending a bundle! I'm simply looking for a preloved stone because it's likely to be more reasonable than even BN/WF/BGD. I'm a bargain hunter, as are many on the preloved forum! :rodent:

Oh and Tiffany isn't retail, it's highway robbery! ;))

GL and let us know how you make out

I have a 4mm stone, H color, eye-clean. Ebay stone bought a while back that I thought would be an older cut, but it's much more modern. Lemme know if you're interested :)

I'd love to see a picture of it! Do you know how the cut is?

Oh that IS beautiful! I wonder how I'd do with an N, I'm not terribly color sensitive and the old cut seems to pull it off better than standard RB. Hmmmmm :Up_to_something:

Thank you for the link! I actually just realized this morning while digging through my jewelry box that I already have the perfect stone! :appl: A few years ago I'd purchased a pair of little chrome tourmalines and had planned to make studs with them. Coincidentally, they're 4mm, exactly what I need! ::)

Green is one of the colors I'd really wanted in a ring and it looks lovely even just plopped in the setting so I'm sure it'll look great! I'm happy, and DH certainly is happy to avoid buying another diamond...for now. :Up_to_something:

Exactly. WF and BGD may be competitively priced in terms of value for money, but they are still retailers, there's no denying that. Tiffany's and Cartier are what?...boutique retailers? Regardless, on a tight budget buying secondhand is likely to save at least 20%, maybe 30% off BGD or WF's retail prices. If I were wanting to do a project on a budget, I'd wait for a preloved stone. :))
