It has been many years since I have posted. But I am back for ideas!!!

I have received my grandfather's diamond ring - yes my grandfathers!! He wore it as a pinky ring. His name John and was a character. There was massive family negotiation involved for me to get this ring and my husband is still beyond mad at the price that was ultimately paid to my brother - probably the most expensive ring of its kind purchased ever. However, the ring itself is in very bad shape and I would like to reset the diamond.

As far as I can tell it is a round brilliant ring probably circa half a carat and at least 60 years old - somewhat dark, poorly cut and not valuable in the open market. I got cheated !!!!! :) No I didn't I love it and wearing it makes me feel close to him.

So, I would like to put the diamond in a fun, flirty and NOTHING LIKE an engagement ring setting. I want a cocktail ring. Over the top artistic cocktail ring. Hand made.

Any wild ideas?

What's your budget?

I've recently fell in love with the idea of a ring in the shape of a bowtie.

Like this Tiffany but without the pink bubbles

The other esy way to keep it looking like an e ring is adding a few colored stones. (More than one color even ) :o

I love it! I actually like the bubbles and could see it with blue sapphires!!

Budget - I paid THOUSANDS for a ring worth about 500 bucks :) On one hand I think it isn't really worth it to put a lot into a setting that I will probably change but on the other hand I really want something that I will love. So, I am conflicted.

My grandfather dressed like an old time gangster so I thought maybe something art deco. And this is definitely a spin on that!

Oh theres all sorts of places you could go with art deco. Easily lends itself to a more outrageous (in a good way) setting

Here's another I've pinned. Would be neat with sapphires as you said.

I love it!

Anyone know who does custom rings with french cut sapphires?

I've sewn examples where engagement rings direct does it. And theyve been producing some lovely things lately.

Found this don't know if your stone would fit

I know you said ring and I don't know about your budget but if you would be able to switch out the pearl and replace it with your diamond I think this would be beautiful

Heididdl: gorgeous, unique ring!

Adam at OWD has a souce who does these types of art deco setting with calibrated sapphires/ rubies/ emeralds. ERD also does some. And I also just found out that the Gabriel settings through IDJ can be made with colored stones halos.

Super old thread! But found it when I saw your new oval @Cookiesmom ! Did you ever set this?
