I would llike to reset this ring as either a white gold or platinum ring or pendent. The current design while nice, is not flattering on my finger. Help me decide how to reset

Note: this is a RHR even though it is on my left hand. I had to use my right hand to take the photo.

Here are is all I know about the ring from the appraisal that is 13 years old. Yikes how time flies

18 kt yellow gold
10 fine blue Ceylon princess cut shapphires ~1.42 cts. tw ( aprox .14 ct each)
8 RB diamonds ~ .38 cts tw VS1-2 G-H (since they are all different no idea individual ct )
Total weight: 8.50 grams

Here is another ring with the same question. Should I reset it in maybe silver for my daughter whose birth stone is Topaz as either a ring or necklace

I think its a great idea to reset into a pendant. it looks also that there is a lot of gold used to make both rings. do you have a budget in mind? and are you ok with dismantling the rings? does it hold any sentimental value?

I am fine taking the rings apart. They have no sentimental value. I bought them in a different time and phase of my life.

As far as budget, I am open. I would be willing to spend more on the sapphire ring then the topaz. The sapphires I am totally open. It would be nice to keep the topaz under 1000 as I think I only paid about $300 for the ring at the time. I would most likely give the topaz to my 14 yr old dd at some point.

Depending on the size of your finger you might be able to do an eternity band with the sapphires and diamonds.

my ring size is between 6.5 and 7

I''m not sure what to do with the sapphire ring, but I think the topaz ring would look lovely turned into a pendant for your daughter!

vc10um Do you have ideas for the pendent. Any pics or recommendation on who to work with?
Thanks

oooh I like kismet idea with eternity band or how bout a scattered band with those stones all around like pictured?

Also I found a pendant, that kind of reminded of your shape Topaz. But only not sure how to incorporate the diamonds unless you had a little bezel drop and another one flushed into the bail. Just a thought.

For the diamonds I love the idea of the scatter rings. that would be gorgeous!

With the sapphires you could do a fabulous eternity band...that would look beautiful too! I don''t love the idea of a pendant but that is because I perfer rings. Regardless I think anything you choose will be great.

I think a scatter could be great with the diamonds and the sapphires.

Also, my aunt has a ring that has three rows (prob 5 stones across or 7, about the same size as yours) of diamonds, top row champagne diamonds, middle row white, bottom row champagne. I love the wy it looks and think it could be beautiful with sapphires and diamonds (though I can''t really tell how many of each stone there is there).

I was thinking something along the line of rockpaperscissors67''s sapphire/diamond band.

I would use the topaz for a pendant for your daughter and I would do a scatter ring with the diamonds and maybe a bypass band with the sapphires. Have fun deciding what to do.

Topaz is great for a pendant due to it''s unusual shape and large size, while with sapphires/diamonds you can do pretty much anything. If you opt for a pendant there are so many ideas you can go for, from scenes of nature, to symbols like horoscope sings, initials, hearts etc. You can even make a pin or brooch if you like wearing them. Rings offer some more classical options and less diversity, but you can do a lot with them too. I would advise that, whatever you do, you try to observe gemstones for more than just color, and get a sense of their perceived heaviness or lightness, or aspects such as the way light is handled inside a stone (sapphires and diamonds have very different types of brilliance). They are also of completely different shapes, which should also be taken into account.

I must say I like both rings in their current forms. Would your daughter wear the topaz ring in gold? For the sapphire ring if the profile is rounded it may suit you more.

JSRNM,

Your sapphire ring is not flattering because the design reads across the finger. I am a fairly beefy guy, I buy shirts with vertical stripes because a shirt with horizontal stripes accentuates my girth. Same principle applies to rings. The most flattering design is one that reads vertically up the finger.

Very few of us, men or women, have long tapering fingers, hence long painted nails.

Hope this helps,

I love the scattered band idea for the Diamonds from the Sapphire band. I''d probably think about something different like rose gold just because you''re going custom. But I totally understand the desire for white metal.

Or I would try to get two thin stacking bands out of it. If your fingers are long enough for that look. I''d try to alternate the diamonds and sapphires in them.

And I would do the pendant out of the Topaz.

How wonderful it is that you have these pieces to recycle!
