Hi guys,

I am new here and this is my first post so I will first introduce myself.

I am Bruce / using the name Rouffian as I live in a tiny village in the South of France named Rouffiac d''Aude. If anyone were interest I have a website describing the place but to be honest it''s a bit of a one-horse town.

I know pretty much 90% of all there is to know about loads of stuff, including diamonds (Well, probably not 90%, and little about who sells them) but I haven''t a clear idea who I can buy my wife''s apology present* from.

She wants an Asscher cut with good cut and OK colour (H - J would do) and somewhere between 1.7 and 2 cts (though obviously a 2+ would be acceptable if the person selling it were a loony who underpriced it)

So what I am wondering is, who do you love?

Winfield is a favourite, but he don''t do Asschers
Whiteflash have a limited selection
USA Certed have one or two I like
Abazias had a great stone, but it''s out on approval, and probably won''t be back, nothing else they have at the moment really rings my bell.

So if there''s anyone else (PriceScope didn''t really throw any up) I would be delighted to hear.

Also, I have read a fair amount about Asschers and feel that I would be wise to care a lot about the polish and cut, with probably colour being the other major factor (in comparison with other cuts) but if anyone feels differently I would welcome an expert''s view.

Cheers,

Bruce / Rouffian

* I have to apologise for dumping her in Rouffiac while I get to stay in 4 star hotels in Paris most weeks.

Jonathan at Good Old Gold has sold Pricescopers some incredible Asschers and he provides detailed photos and reports for his stones. If you can work with him and post pictures in your thread, Strmdr (our resident Asscher afficionado) can provide you with feedback based on the photos and info.

I second the suggestion for Good Old Gold. They would be my 1st choice.
Whiteflash sometimes can source good asschers from the virtual database. www.whiteflash.com
I''m sure Mark at Engagement Rings Direct can as well. www.engagementringsdirect.com

I was going to say "You must have been a very bad boy Rouffian

Good thing you gave us the explanation

Welcome!

Talk to Jonathan at GOG. I was working with him for a bit and he''s great! I''d stay with a G/H color for an Asscher. Fancy cuts show more yellow. Just my 2 cents. Good luck!

Wow, thanks guys.

My wife is coming up to Paris with me next week, so I am hoping to give her something to make her gasp with pleasure, and there''s not much chance of that unless I can:

a) Remind her what a wonderful time can be had here
b) give her a largish diamond in the bar at Costes, where Johnny Depp met his missus, apparently.

I will see what I can do given the info you have given me. Even a photo of the final ring would do the job, I think.

Merci beaucoup.

Uh, actually we DO source exceptional Asscher cut diamonds for our clients upon request! We simply don''t keep them in-stock at the moment since our primary market is round and princess ideal cut diamonds... We''re happy to assist any of our clients with locating a diamond of any shape (within the confines of our established selection criteria), as I''m sure most of our online competitors would be happy to do as well.

Hmmm, I wonder if Wink will pay for the trip to France if I offer to deliver the diamond?

Immediate "feedback" from my Fiancé (who is wearing an Asscher that I selected): "If anybody is going to France to deliver a diamond, it''s going to be me!" Being solution oriented, I''m thinking that Good Ol'' Wink will resolve this conflict by offering the two of us a round trip, all expenses paid trip to France - for like two weeks! Kind of like a signing bonus

All good suggestions given so far!

For sure some people don;t like any color in a diamond. Personally, I don''t mind color in a step cut ( like an Asscher)- so I think going for an I or J color is a wonderful solution.

Well thanks for the correction Todd. However I think you will find that DHL is significantly cheaper than Business Class round trips to Paris for a couple, with an overnight stay at the Grand Hotel de Champaigne. Dinner at L''absinthe for two would actually cost more than DHL, and that''s where I recommend eating.

I will tell you what, if the plan falls apart I will contact you again and ask if you could look around.

And thanks for the feedback David. I am looking at your website now.

My wife is far from a perfectionist, so she would rather have a hint of colour if the cut and polish are enough to dazzle the eye long enough for her to raise a finger at them. (A ring finger, of course) I guess that clarity isn''t too high on the list either, but for some reason that matters more than it should to her. I always think an Asscher conceals inclusions well.

I was in Tiffany''s today, just browsing, and their display stones are all fabulous, but they were setting a Cushion that was 3.2ct, G, SI1 with excellent cut and polish and it looked wonderful, even under 10x. It was a bit shallow too, but who would care? it just looked bigger. Of course, a pebble looks good under their lights.

David. I love your site. You do have some mind-bogglingly good value stones. I think you will hear from me.
