Hi there, I'm looking to buy apprx 1crt size round gem to set in a halo ring for my right hand.
I've never shopped for a colored gem loose so don't know where to look at for what I need.
I want to keep the cost down, don't want to spend more than $500 for the stone. I'm looking for red-pink colored gem, thinking pink tourmaline maybe considering my budget. I also really like light blue stone, so if I can't find pink stone in my budget, light blue can be an option.
Could anyone direct me the best place to search cheaper gem stone like this?

Thanks!

First thing, get the mm measurement needed to fit into your halo.
Different gems have different specific gravities. That is, for their similiar size ie a 6.5mm round, their carat weight will vary.
A 6.5mm sapphire weighs more, higher carat weight, than a 6.5mm diamond.
Then when shopping check the mm size rather than carat weight to make sure it will find in.

You can buy a pink tourmaline or pink spinel. Yvonne Raley on Etsy is a very reputable jeweler, and she has this in stock right now. https://www.etsy.com/listing/623874...ga_search_query=pink&ref=shop_items_search_19

7.6mm is pretty large, but I think she can source whatever size you need, because she carries tourmalines down to melee 3mm size, as well.

You might also consider spinels, for which I think this would be my preferred vendor on Etsy. https://www.etsy.com/shop/Thegemcollector?ref=pr2018_faveshops

Thank you so much, it is so much more difficult to buy colored gem than diamonds. I’m gettin a setting made, so I don’t have to worry about fitting the stone. However now I look at it, maybe 1crt maybe a little too big? I’m setting it in double halo, so maybe I should look into a little smaller like 5mm range? I want it to be delicate, not cocktail ring look

That's a pretty nice tourmaline from Yvonne!!!! Really pretty and affordable!!!!

It is pretty, but it says heat treated? Is that going to be an issue?
Although heat treated greatly affects value in sapphire and ruby, heat treatment is not detectable in tourmalines even by labs like AGL, so everyone just assumes heat treatment, and there is no difference in price since we must assume everything is heat treated when it comes to tourmaline.

A lot of people should have such a stone. How about you post a WTB post on Loupe Troop? or on the PS pre loved forum. I can think of a few people who buy too much pink :P2

I am one of the few, the proud, who buys too much pink...:kiss2:
@wintotty, I have a pretty hot pink tourmaline cut by John Dyer ( a master cutter), sitting in my stash that would love to have a new home. I am currently on vacation and if you can wait 2 weeks, I would be happy to talk to you through Loupe Troop (user name Suzanne12). Sorry I don't have the specs with me, but it's a cute little thing with a serious glow.
