I am looking for an eye-clean asscher cut peridot to have set in a white gold split shank pave setting (without a halo) with double-claw prongs on the corners. I am hoping for around 8x8mm in size.

First, let me know if you guys think an 8x8 would be a good size - I wear a size 4 and and I am hoping for a ring like this, LOVE it (but I can't afford the diamond, so I'll going for a peridot because green is my favorite color):

My second question is, what is an appropriate price for such a stone? I have received 2 quotes but I really am not sure what a stone like this should cost so I don't really have a starting point.

And the third question (last one, I swear) is - who are your favorite colored gem cutters? From other posts I have heard of Jeff White, Peter Torraca, Doug Menadue, Gary Braun, Barry Bridgestock, and Gene of Precison Gems. Let me know if you have any thoughts on those ones or have any other good suggestions. I have looked at a zillion websites and can not find a stone of these specs...

Any advice is GREATLY appreciated

It sounds very pretty. I really like asschers but don''t have one. The vendors you list are very popular with everyone on PS. I think 8mm would be a great size. I personally like smaller stones but Peter told me a 6mm was too small in an asscher. Have fun shopping.

Asscher cuts are not the typical cut for a peridot, so generally you would either buy from someone''s already cut stones or have one cut for you.

On its own however, peridot is relatively inexpensive as there is a lot of material out there, however, when you want a highly saturated clean stone with less yellow and more pure green, you will def. pay more. Where the rough was sourced and who cuts your stone also adds to the price.

If you can''t find what you want out there already, you will want to contact a few cutters to see what type of rough they have on hand. You''ll want to let them know the size you need and your color preferences for pricing purposes.

Custom cut stones can vary in price because you really are paying not only for material but also that cutter''s time. A higher profile cutter also can mean a higher price at times.

Ditto. Peridot is also a soft stone, so it''s not appropriate for everyday wear, please keep that in mind.

I got my 8mm asscher peridot from Doug at Bespoke. He custom cut it for me from his rough. It''s hard to find a peridot that''s not too yellow or olive toned, then add to that the size and shape of rough to cut an asscher and you might have quite a search on your hands. But I would send out some emails to see what you can dig up. Good luck!

ETA- I''ve attached a picture of my peridot so you can see his work.

That is a beautiful stone redfaery! Oh my, that would be perfect. I might go with a 7 mm to save a little on the cost. Would you mind sharing how much such a stone cost? If not, I completely understand...

Thank you for sharing your photo. What do you plan on setting it in?

Thank you Arcadian and Tourmaline Lover, I will definitely keep these things in mind.
