Hi All,

I'm new here and looking for a diamond for an engagement ring. Was wondering what everyone thought of the following 2 diamonds:

0.803 ct, D, VVS1
White Flash Diamond

.85 ct, E, VVS1
Local retailer (should be 4 images)
For this diamond I'm still requesting for the ASET Images. Does anyone think there would be a problem with crown angle 34.0 and pavilion angle 40.6?

Also for both diamonds, they score below 1 on the HCA. From my understanding, this shouldn't really matter and the only problem is the stone going dark when you view it in person. Would anyone be able to provide information or images on what this would look like?

Thanks!

What is the price differential?

WF ACA and upgrade policy

Whiteflash, for the upgrade policy because you never know...

Just a suggestion--I would go down in clarity a bit to gain size, unless high clarity has cultural importance. I personally prefer D or E color, but I would also recommend going down to F/G to gain size, unless of course, there's cultural significance in high color. For the same money, you could be over the one carat mark and gain up to a half mm in diameter. Again, if you have a strong preference or cultural significance for high color/high clarity--never mind! But if you're doing high color/high clarity because you thought that was the only way to find a beautiful diamond (spoiler alert--it's not), then give it a thought.

No cultural significance for the color or clarity. I'm not looking to increase size either as I think she wanted something not too proportionally large compared to her fingers. I'll take a look at some lower specs, thanks!

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your input! Whiteflash diamonds really are perfectly cut... Before I make any decisions on this though can you please take a look at one more diamond from my local retailer?

0.86 ct, E, VVS2 - $7550 CAD

I would of been satisfied with H&A being just okay as I've read that the difference in light return from a perfect H&A and decent H&A are minimal, and the cut proportions look excellent anyways. But the ASET show a lot of green around the upper girdles, which is my only concern.

Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance!

I realize you would save $1000 but I would still take the WF for the upgrade. You don’t know how she will feel in 5-10 years.

You are blessed to have a local jeweller who offers top-quality diamonds, at prices that are so competitive with WhiteFlash. And your local jeweller is not shy about showing how their diamonds compare to estimates of how AGS and GIA grade the cut of other well-cut diamonds.

There are big advantages to working with a local jeweller. Getting to see the diamond before you buy is just the start. Ring design and setting, and regular cleaning, prong maintenance, and insurance appraisal updates are all much easier if your jeweller is local. Does the local jeweller have a high-quality on-site (or local) bench jeweller to do setting work?

If I were in your shoes, I would just work with the local jeweller who has shown you these two options. Ask them to show you (in person) the difference between the various colors you are considering, using on-hand example stones in the ballpark of the diameter of stone you are thinking about. In consultation with the jeweller, decide what specs for color and clarity you would be happy with. Then have them order in two or three stones to choose from, side-by-side. I would suggest including either the shallower of these two stones, or another stone with similar cut specifications, in the final comparison.

This a million times over - a top shelf local jeweler for cleaning, re tips, repair work, etc is worth it’s weight in gold, pun intended.

This is the one I would get. I feel more strongly about upgrade policies when the $ out of pocket is higher or the stone is larger and would not be able to be repurposed. If you have the chance in the future to buy her a larger diamond (if she wants) then you can do so and just plan to keep this one too, as this is a very good size for a pendant or a single earring in a beautiful pair of studs. Sometimes it is better to give the local B&M store the business. In this case I feel that diamond is a great looking stone at a more competitive price than the super ideal. My $0.02

1 carat sounds so perfect
