He did mention yesterday, though, that I only my wear what we call “original bling” a couple of times a year. I have some awesome bands but none I like with it. So - I’m looking for advice on what would look good? I’m not in the market asap but would pick something up if the right thing came along.

The stone came from a cocktail ring of his great grandmothers. It measures about 7.1 mm x 7.4 mm and was appraised to be an O-P EOC but I don’t have a very on it so I don’t really know if the color is really that or is it really is an OEC. That’s doesn’t matter to me, just finding something that looks good with it is. Straight bands don’t look great with it, nor do bright modern stones. Would a warm moissy OEC band look good, a curved gold only band? Something else? It’s also two tone which adds to the conundrum. And I wouldn’t be looking to spend a bazillion dollars. No budget yet, just looking for ideas.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Lucky lady! It's a beautiful ring & I love it with the plain yellow gold band that you wear it with here.

I can’t suggest you anything, but your solitaire is gorgeous! I think I would look for some carved wedding band in rose gold.

Great idea!

I have a setting with straight side baguettes and find a floral engraved/embossed band looks good with it. I also have a band with 7 single cuts that looks good too.
I tried a band with horizontally set baguettes and it didn’t look quite right tho I’ve seen others wear them and look great with this sort of setting.
Ps your ring is lovely and I think it is an OEC looking at those pictures. Love the two-tone setting too!

I hadn’t thought about single cuts! And I’ll check out some engraved/embossed bands. Thanks for the ideas!

Classic beautiful setting.. I'd get a thin platinum band and call it a day, but that is me.

How about a baguette band? Maybe with some color? I also already love it with the plain yellow band as in your photo.

Stunning e-ring!!!
I support the idea for an engraved band. David Klass has a great engraver.
Your ring also looks great with the yellow gold band. Very classic

That’s beautiful! And I love vintage. Thanks to everyone for putting the engraved band idea in my head. Off to etsy and eBay to look for my size (4 but I’d go up to a 4.5 for the right one). @LLJsmom - I’d pick up the one you posted if it was my size!
I have some suggestions:
This Etsy shop does beautiful reproductions of vintage styles so you can have your pick of gold and size https://etsy.me/2JB6S1X. I believe there is at least one PSer with a band from here, possibly more and they said the quality was high.
Also reproductions and to my eye not as fine but they have a nice sculptural quality to them too https://etsy.me/2HCUa2l
LeighJayNacht are known for vintage and have just started an Etsy store https://etsy.me/2HAOC8p
Copper Canary has a good eye for a crisp pattern but I think their prices are on the high side https://etsy.me/2HDaHmJ
MaeJean Vintage have lower prices and a wide assortment of rings https://etsy.me/2HDfUuG
This is almost the right size https://etsy.me/2r6RALs
There’s not a lot of 4-4.5 engraved bands with good quality engraving available atm (I love orange blossom and wheat patterned bands so stalk them on Etsy frequently just in case) but try Belais and orange blossom band.
Ooh and I just found a new store that seems to specialise in New Old Stock so perfect crisp bands https://etsy.me/2r7r9W8! Super excited! There are some lovely patterns there and you get the fun of an antique but it’s brand new.
Found a single cut band that you might like too https://etsy.me/2HAnINR
Also, your current plain band looks marvellous with your ring. That rich gold really pops next to your lovely ering

You collected so nice Etsy Sellers! I’m not in the hunt, but who knows...with this spectrum of bands I may find something, I was not even looking for!!;)2

Any of these would be great! Thanks for all of these suggestions.

And thanks for the comments about the plain gold band. I was never sure.

That new old stock one is a deal! I think I’ll pick it up just to have it, even if I don’t wear it with the ering! I think it would look great, though. Thank you so much @foxinsox

Pretty!

I love it with the yellow gold band as is, too! Reminds me of the Queen's set.

I think it’s the fact that the yellow gold band is rounded and the ering band is squared that has thrown me off all of these years! But I’m loving all of the love for it!

I wonder if something like this might look good with it? Not really sure. Would add interest though. It would be nice if you could find somewhere that
has some bands that you could try on. Any nice pawn shops around where you live?

E3617ABE-FA65-449D-AC11-866E7B6603AB.jpeg So I ordered this ring from an etsy seller (a similar ring by the seller was suggested) and it was beautiful but not right with my set. The gold is marked as 14k but looked almost like 18k to me - very yellow. Beautiful but the color and scale didn’t work for what I needed. The seller is going to suggest some old cut diamond bands from his inventory to see if he has anything else that might work. I’m the meantime, when I choose to wear the solitare, I’ll rock it with my plain gold band. Thanks to all who chimed in with suggestions!

I don't know that this suggestion is going to be all that helpful - but here goes: if it were mine, I'd get your e-ring re-set. I think there's a lot of extraneous metal either end of the EC's, and the center stone is set very high. If you brought down the center stone and a good jeweler was able to decrease the side of the wraps holding the EC's on each end, you'd see more of your yellow gold band, which would make more visual cohesion between your e-ring and any yellow gold wedder you wanted to wear with it.

The problem at the moment, as it seems to my eye, is that you see no yellow gold from the top. So a yellow gold wedding band is always going to look incongruous. Going platinum wouldn't work, because that really doesn't go, so you need a way to tie your e-ring in more with any new wedder you choose.

So I vote one for a re-set into something more tailored to your stones. I would also consider an all-yellow gold setting for it to make the most of the color in your gorgeous center stone. That would look awesome! Alternately, rose gold, which always looks delicious with warm stones. And then you could pair it with whatever you like - tho my suggestion would be the one @chappy posted, but in the matching metal to your new e-ring setting. And that would be one blingalicious pairing!

Whatever you decide - good luck! It's a fun journey! :wavey:

Just wanted to add that David Klass makes some beautiful engraved bands of all sizes. Having seen them in person, I can tell you they are lovely and can either be bold or very dainty. I wouldn't hesitate to get one from him and I am sure Amy can send you pictures of the different sizes. I would send her a picture of your ring and get her opinion. She has a great eye for putting things together.

@mrs-b - I appreciate that suggestion and agree! The height of the center stone has always bothered me. We didn’t have the best experience with the jeweler where we had it set years ago (she didn’t listen to a word we said but we didn’t know anything at that point, either) and what I wasn’t sure about then, I really don’t like now. It’s too high, it’s too platinum, etc. It is a good quality setting I think, though so that’s something.

I did visit three local independent jewelers in the last few years and all three said that it was set as low and it could be and that setting lower would make the stone look worse. Then I discovered PS and learned that wasn’t the truth!

My husband doesn’t care if I have a few wedding sets to play with (which I do) but has said he feels an attachment to this setting. That being said, he’s super reasonable and if it meant I’d wear it more, I think he’d be just fine with a reset with the same concept of the original.

Thanks for the thoughts! :))

Thanks for this! I have looked at some of the examples on PS of plain bands made beautiful by David Klass and I’m impressed!

@tyty333 I just really wonder, how do you find so cheap and nice items on eBay! I really wish I knew how you do your search.

It doesn’t “match” but I’m really pleased with it. It’s slightly curved and two tone to match my ER. I bought it from an Etsy seller who has a brick and mortar store and had this in his not yet posted inventory. This ring probably isn’t the choice everyone would have made but I’m really pleased with it. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions!

I think it looks beautiful!!!
