Looking for reassurance on prongs

Hi all,

Can you reassure me that the gap between the prongs and diamond is normal? I was assured that they are safe by the vendor, just looking for reassurance because it is still worrying me.

It looks like your diamond is not sitting securely in the prong seats. It looks like the head is too big for your stone. I would not except this quality of workmanship.

ETA. Is this your setting from Maytal Hannah? :oops2:

That does not look right to me. I am no expert but my understanding is that the prongs really need to be "hugging" the diamond in order to be secure. My diamond is greasy so pardon that but I took a close up to show you what I mean:

Eeek. Unacceptable. They need to fix this.

Yes it is. I am sick to my stomach over this. :(2 I'm kind of at a loss. I am nervous about reworking or replacing the head. But it's been communicated that it's my only option. Disappointed doesn't begin to cover it.

Gosh I’m so sorry, you just got this beautiful ring.
I can understand why you are so upset.

So you’ve spoken to Maytal about this and a new head was offered, is that correct? If it were me, I would definitely send it back to have it done. It should be a pretty straightforward repair. I know you are disappointed but the way it is now your stone is at risk.
Have her send you a shipping label for the return. That way her insurance covers your ring during the shipping back.
Your ring is so beautiful, it needs to be secure too.

I’m so sorry. But better to get done than obsess over something that isn’t right. And you shouldn’t be responsible for any charges correct?

That needs addressing, definitely. You never want a stone to float. Those prongs have been slightly over notched in relation to the stone (don't know the official name for the seating). The good thing is that it can be fixed either by working/tweaking the head as is to reposition the prong angle, or replacement. This is something they should cover, as it was not user oriented wear.

Thank you so much for the kind words. Yes, my plan right now is to send the ring back to have the prongs and basket remade. I'm really hopeful.

Absolutely best to get it fixed. I'm only nervous because I hate shipping my diamond. I haven't worn it since I noticed the issue with the prongs.

Hi @blubear I saw your post last night but didn't have the proper light to get a good pic for you.

I reset my EC almost 4 years ago way before I joined PS. I have always felt that the center is very secure. This morning I got this pic for you. Lo and behold there is a little gap! I wonder if the gap is a function of how ECs nest in a basket?

Overall my stone looks like it is more snug in its basket. Your center seems to be floating more. For reassurance, I would send your ring back for the head to be rebuilt.

I hope this image helps!

(and yes, my ring needs a very good cleaning!)

Thank you for sharing! I agree yours looks much more snug and fitted in the basket. I'm confident they will be able to correct my setting.
