I recently started making matcha lattes at home and realized that the matcha powder I have is highly inferior to any I've tasted in Japan. Can anyone recommend a decent quality (doesn't need to be superior grade as I doubt I'd be able to tell the difference, lol), easily purchased from the US, reasonably priced matcha powder?

Good luck in finding good quality Matcha powder where you are.

I have not been to Japan yet, originally planned for 2025 to celebrate a significant birthday, now postponed to 2027 so that I can save up for some nice pearl purchases while I am there.

Therefore, I can't comment if the Matcha powder I bought from Amazon UK is any good.

However, it is good enough for me for making Matcha Latte at home, made with hot frothy full fat milk and a dash of honey for sweetness, yum!

DK :))

I have been following some people on IG and they own Junbi matcha and have several stores that make matcha drinks. They even sell matcha powders too!

Hi @Kim N Ito-en is a big tea producer fr Japan. Their matcha is good. You can get ion Amazon and Walmart.
I buy the unsweetened organic matcha and whisk it myself. Much better than the pre-mixed ones, which tend to be weak. https://itoen.com/products/matcha-love-organic

Another brand that I buy is Otsuka. Not sure if it is available in the US. I have attached some pics./IMG_0592.jpegIMG_0591.jpeg

Q: do any of you whisk it up using one of those bamboo whisk and rest it on a rest that looks like a s£x toy please? :lol-2:

I just use a spoon to stir it before I add the frothy hot milk into the cup.

Haha, no, I just use a regular small metal whisk or the milk frother on my coffee machine.

HI:

Wonderful Canadian company. Their products are very good--all my family uses their chili miso's!

cheers--Sharon

Without knowing what price point you want to be in,
I like Breakaway matcha (And houjicha).
My issue is using it up before it goes old and loses some flavor nuances, but even at that point it’s still better than what’s locally available to me. In podunkville.

We are a huge tea household and I really only buy tea from companies that sell specific types, Japanese greens from Japanese sellers, Nepali from specifically Nepali tea gardens.

But I have enjoyed Tao of Tea jade emperor, which is their matcha. It is creamy and grassy on its own and I think it would hold up with milk well. They are local to Portland Or but sell on Amazon.

My other suggestion is check out Ito En. They a huge and make iced teas sold in most Japanese markets amd every commissary I have ever been to. They also have a selection of matchas (and benches and hojichas). They have huge US distribution, we used to have a booth near them at the Specialty food show.

Thanks so much, everyone! I'm going to check these out.
