I posted this request in RockyTalky, b/c I''m in the process of purchasing and need a source of reference to make my decision. So now, I''m also posting it here, too. (Sorry for duplication!)

If anyone has a Regent cut diamond set in the Vatche X-Prong setting, please post your pics so I can see if the X-Prong makes the diamond appear more square than it does when it''s loose.

Actual owner''s pictures at various angles would be best, rather than marketing shots.

I''m aiming for 1ct or slightly below and someone had a good comment that perhaps Regents only begins to take on a square shape with larger weights.

Thanks for the help everyone. Great board!

Hi please look at "REGENT PICS" thread to see...all are in 4 prong settings and range in size form .71 to 1.52 of various colors...

Baloo's ring is in an x-prong...no shots from side...

I have side pics of mine but it is in a truffle but it may give you the idea

Will post tomm

Thanks Diane. I saw yours in a 4-prong setting and the .9 is closer to what I'll probably get versus the 1.19 of Baloo's. Both are great. Someone else might have mentioned that the smaller the Regent, the more round it would look. I'm still not giving up on the Flanders though. Thanks for the input!

.90 is a good size. I happen to know Cary (of Regent cutting fame), currently has a G-SI1 that is totally eye-clean and gorgeous. I know of a bay area vendor that could have this stone brought in, or you could work with Good Old Gold (in NY) over the Internet. Jonathan at Good Old Gold has been great to work with!! And my Regent just arrived this morning!

Geoffrey's in San Carlos. They are off 101 and Holly. Geoffrey is the only west coast dealer of Regents I know of and can get the Queen of Hearts stones too. Geoffrey is currently working on a custom setting for me to hold the Regent and I've been very happy with his service thus far. He's outstanding to work with! If you do stop by, mention you're a friend of mine, you might get a few peeks

The regent looks great in the X-prong setting! It doesn't make it look too square or too round. Very attractive ring! Thanks for posting!

Does anyone know if they X-Prong in white gold has platinum prongs?

If you talk to the vendor, they can special order just about anything D'Vatche. Even if this is non-standard, they shouldn't have problem filling your request. I know Leslye at Whiteflash has a really good relationship with D'Vatche. Remember with D'Vatche, they have to set your diamond and do all maintenance (beyong polishing) otherwise you void your warranty.

Vatche had said they won't do a white gold shank and platinum prongs. It has proven too difficult in the past and that the all gold would be stronger.

Hmmm, you might have a better time going custom then. Having a qualified benchman do all the work as opposed the somewhat assembly-line approach of a major manufacturer and the X-prong is a fairly common and simple design, you shouldn't have much trouble finding what you want. Why not go all platinum?

If I can find someone to do a custom plat channel xprong for less than the $2600 Vatche is priced at then sure!

You likely can. I've always found D'Vatche to be well overpriced given what you get. If you mention what part of the country you are in, you might get someone to chime in locally with a recommendation based on experience.
