Looking to buy a colored stone (preferably a blue sapphire)

Hello,

This is my first time posting on this forum. I have a pair of 0.77 ct (F/SI1) OECs that I'd like to set in a ring. I don't own any colored stone jewelry except a platinum ring with a small pink sapphire. My budget for the whole ring is $4000. I'd like to get a blue sapphire, but I know untreated ones are really expensive. Is my budget unrealistic for a platinum three stone setting and a 7-8mm sapphire? I'd appreciate any help. Thank you very much!

You'd be surprised what you can do with a $4000 budget. I don't think it's unrealistic. And you already have the sides tones and you can go with a stock setting. What type of blue are you after?

There is what they describe as a medium blue 7mm stone at the top, and then a lighter blue 7mm stone a little farther down.

If I were you, Sakuracherry, I would get a feel for sapphires by looking at the offerings of vendors such as Gemfix, as IK has pointed out. It helps to get a sense of color that is acceptable to you. Gemfix seems to be one of the best vendors lately for sapphires as they have a fairly sizable inventory - more than what is on their website.

Perhaps good news coming out of Tucson is that the recent astronomical increases in sapphire pricing may be leveling off a bit.

It will depend on the hue, tone and saturation of blue sapphire you are looking for. Even if heated, I'm not sure if your budget is realistic for a heated 8 mm blue sapphire with strong saturation and medium tone, and the setting. If you happen to like some green and gray, it is definitely doable.

IK,

I took a look at the website. I think I like medium-deep blue without violet/purple undertones. Thank you.

Freke,

I love that sapphire. I have to contact the seller because I don't know much about customs feels. I don't know if $1000 enough for a simple platinum settin, though. Thank you.

minousbijoux,

I've takena look at the websites you suggested. I haven't seen many sapphire in real life, so it's hard to guess how stones would look like. Those were very helpful, though. Thank you.

Chrono,

I don't mind green, but I don't think I like grey. Maybe I should be looking at 7mm stones instead? Thank you.

Can you please post a few pictures of blue sapphires you like? That would help us recommend the right ones for you.
