Lots of old threads came up, some with defunct links....but so far I''ve got:

Artcutgems.com
ACstones.com
Customgemstones.com
ATGgems.com

I''m a bit late in the Christmas game....must be why there''s not much to choose from! She''s looking for something rectangle or baguette or cushion cut. Not too sure on what size though, but I do know she wants something on the ''large'' size. 3-5 ct? ACstones has a very nice looking stone @1.9ct but I think that''s going to be too small. If anyone has any good loose stone sources I''d sure appreciate it! I''ve also lost my list of mounting sources (been just over 2yrs since I played the diamond game :)....but she wants something just very simple and elegant. No antique or pave...maybe something like this but w/o the diamonds:

(Yes I know that''s a blue topaz :)

Thanks very much!

Andy

I didn''t sort out the cuts, but here are a number of aquas in the weight range you want: http://www.paraibainternational.com/products.php?category=5&page=all&sort=&products_weight=3&products_quantity_type=1
Ooooh, I want this one: http://www.paraibainternational.com/product_info.php?product=1144

That is a nice stone. I''m not an aqua fan, but I''d take one of those deep blue ones.

It''s my birthstone, and I''ve been meaning to get one for a while now...

How would you set it?

Not sure; I can''t decide if I''d want it as a ring or a pendant. I''ve also never bought a loose stone before, so I''ve got some research to do before I have a solid idea of any specifics.

Ohh, very nice stones....not too many in her preferred shape though (and within the budget!). But thank you very much for the Paraiba Int'l link!

I just stumbled upon Multicolour.com -- they seem to have a lot of variety. Just glancing at the database of aquas compared to some of the aforementioned sites, my thought is that the Multicolour stones may not be as high quality. Any feedback on this website or their stones? [EDIT] Hmm, nevermind, they appear to based in Thailand. Though they do offer 10 day return policy...I'm a bit skeptical.

Thanks very much.

Have you checked with:
www.winkjones.com (you'll have to call. He doesn't list all his inventory and he can all in stones from Pala too)
www.diamondexpert.com (you'll have to call to because he can get "outside" stones from Pala and the like as well)
www.ajsgems.com (if you don't mind going long distance)
www.awesomegems.com (a bit pricey but nice stuff)
www.whitesgems.com (has one right now but a wee too rectangular. He's a cutter though so he might have more rough)
www.multicolour.com (love them but you have to do your own homework. You have to sort through tons of stones, and have a sharp eye for cut and colour. They are an honest vendor; I've had good purchases and returned 1 once with no problems.)

ETA
Just saw your post about Multicolour. They carry a gamut of qualities from poor to nice to great ones, you just have to find it. If you aren't confident about your ability to differentiate them, I'd suggest getting a vendor to do the searching for you.

Any thoughts on this one, from Multicolour?

It seems rather light in the picture, but I do realize I can''t have it all (size, clarity, color) for the price-range ($500). :)

Thanks in advance!

Are there any photos other than just that one? I think I''d want to see where the inclusions are and how many they are.

A very interestingly cut stone. A great find out of all the yucky native cuts out there. Yes, the colour is very light, and the saturation as well. I see the rating is stated as bG2/2 meaning it is a very light blue and the saturation is very light, so in person it will be a pale stone. The dark background the stone in on highlights/deepens the blue colour in the photograph. Email Multicolour for a side view and pavilion view for a truer colour (and clarity).

I love aquas but it is hard to find one with good color saturation. Two things I found when looking at them online is check the surrounding color; if the background looks blue or cyan the stone probably isn''t as blue as it appears. I will be anxious to see what you get.

Oh yeah, and the second thing is make sure you can return it if you don''t like it.

I''ve had a great experience with returning items from Multicolour, so I don''t expect Andy to have any problems.

Andy,
check out africagems.com-they have more than 400 aqua''s although they seem to be of higher quality

Thanks everyone, will keep you updated on my decision! Hopefully will have something picked out by the end of the week.

Any luck, mate?

Not yet, though we haven''t had a lot of time to do more searching. We haven''t really found _the_one_ yet -- have a few options that we''re interested in though (a Multicolour stone, and one from Gary@DiamondExpert). I''ll probably order those in at the same time so we can compare them, if no other new inventory comes up on any of the sites soon. I''ll definitely keep the thread updated though!
