I bid on an Authentic new LV cabas piano bag on Ebay yesterday (ended up paying $395)and had a sinking feeling a few hours later that it was a fake. This is my first major purchase on Ebay and buyer''''s remourse quickly set in. I checked the bid listing with My Poupette and had my assumption guaranteed - it is indeed a fake (lining is not the color it should be). I am so frustrated and worried that I''''m going to lose my money. I''''ve already emailed the seller and told her that I do not want it shipped because it isn''''t authentic as she stated and that I''''m expecting a full refund as soon as my e-check clears (called Paypal too to see if they could stop it before it''''s fully processed but they couldn''''t)... Arggggg... has anyone had a similar experience and was it resolved? hopefully it won''''t get to filing a dispute with Paypal or a claim but I haven''''t had an email back from the Seller yet either. Lesson certainly learned - this is the last time I''''ll buy something like this on Ebay.

oops - meant to post this in shopping . sorry everyone. w ill try and move now.

Can''t figure out how to move it! Does anyone know?

Man....you REALLY have to be careful when it comes to designer purses on ebay. I'd say 99% of them are fake. And yes, I've fallen for it too.

Luckily the seller agreed to give me my money back. Thing is though, I'm stuck with the purse! I tried re-selling it on ebay with a bunch of other purses in a "lot of 10" type deal, and when I got to the fake I described it as what it was....a FAKE...and my listing was removed.

Ebay seems to have a policy againt selling things when you specifically state that they aren't authentic, but they have NO problem allowing people to pass fakes off as real! Ridiculous. So, the fake is still at the bottom of my "junk" closet.

I hope you get your money back!

Luckystar,

Try listing it as louis vuitton inspired instead of blatently stating that it is a fake and you might be ok. That way you can get rid of it and somebody can get something they might want. I think that would be clear to people that it was not real so it would be ok.

I bought an antique ring that was advertised as tourmaline and in excellent condition - when it arrived it wasn''t tourmaline and it was badly chipped.

I ended up filing a complaint with Paypal as the seller wanted a gemmologists report and I wasn''t prepared to pay for one. Paypal judged in my favour and refunded me everything including shipping.

you can file a claim with ebay and if you paid with a credit card dispute the charges and the CC company will refund you. that is why you should always us a CC when buying on Ebay, they will ususally be way more helpful in fraud cases than ebay or paypal. good luck and i'm sorry.

Hi I just went through a very similar and scary situation just like yours. FI wanted to surprise me b/c I had mentioned that a girl in my office has a new gucci twirl watch and I really liked it. So he goes on ebay finds it for about $200 less and thinks it looks legit and buys it and pays $590 USD plus $48 USD shipping (we live in Canada) and the fedex guys comes and asks us to cough up another $123 canadian for this watch and as soon as I open the package I know it is fake as heck. Plus it came with no papers, warranty etc... I freaked I go to school full-time we could not afford to lose 800 canadian I could have bought a realy one for that money.
So I e-mailed the seller didn''t hear back filed a dispute which I could have made a claim. He responded and insisted it was real but never suggested I authenticate it at the gucci store here which I was willing to do to get my money back but can you imagine going into real gucci with a super fake???
Then he says if I''m not happy return it and he will refund my money which I promptly did I tracked it to make sure he couldn''t turn around and say he didn''t get it. He got it and I got the refund but I''m out $73 canadian to send it back and the $123 which apparently I can dispute with customs and I am but it is a long process but you can get your money back stick to your guns and file a dispute with paypal.

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks everyone for the responses. i used pay pal but no credit card associated unfortunately. I''ll just have to dispute it with Pay Pal directly if it comes to that. I still haven''t heard from the seller. Will give her until Monday, which is when my e-check is set to clear before I file. I can''t stop thinking about it!

it''s happened to me before, about 5 years ago, i purchased a dior bag for $300 and when it arrived, it was not the same as the pictures on the listing. i knew right away it was fake. contacted the seller and she apologized, claimed she did not know since it was a gift from her mother. she offered the refund. i sent it back and she fell off the face of the earth. avoided all my emails and never refunded my money.

i banned buying designer goods off ebay for 4 years! but eventually started again. now i''m more careful. i would do all my research on the bag i want so i can spot the fakes and the superfakes. i usually ask the seller to send me extra photos of this or that, and if she says no or makes some excuse of why she can''t then it smells fishy. the pictures of the authentic bag on the listing might not be of her bag.

There are a few sellers on ebay that specialize in LV that are trustworthy, but the fakes are just overwhelming.

Plus, the fakes are really good. I was in a store in Japantown that has shopping bags full of fake purses. The LV purses look pretty fake, but the wallets are quite good. I have a real LV wallet and when I placed it side by side with the fake it was virtually impossible to tell the difference. Once you open and examine the interior you can tell, but from the outside - wow - very close.

So on Ebay there is no way you can judge from a photo if it is a fake. Unless you are 100% certain I would not buy a designer thing off ebay.

The seller finally got in touch with me by phone and she said she''ll refund on Monday. I won''t hold my breath but it looks like it''s going to work out okay. Phew!!!

Wow!! I am sorry to hear abt the fake but glad that the seller has agreed to give you a full refund. Personally, I wouldn;t buy anything on eBay, let alone a designer handbag. Even as a "seasoned" LV consumer, I can''t always tell from photos if an item is fake or not though I can tell a fake LV in person within a few seconds of looking at it. I certainly wouldn''t buy any designer item on eBay and always buy from original stores. You pay more but you''re guaranteed to get the real "McCoy".

I''m glad you will get a refund! I had a similar situation with a pair of "sevens" jeans. I put in a bid on a pair, and then reailzed that they were probably fake. I e-mailed the seller just as you did and told him/her/whatever that I just realized that the jeans that he had listed as authentic were knock offs and that I did not want them shipped to me. The seller refunded me completely no questions asked and practically begged me not to leave negative feedback. A lot of these sellers rely on other disillusioned customers to provide postitive feedback in praise of the item. One negative, "MY ITEM IS A FAKE" comment will make future buyers steer clear. Either way it is a dishonest way to make money. I now only shop for jeans that have store tags on them. And I NEVER buy from sellers who have more than one of the same item. Those are most assuredly fake especilally if the auctions only include stock photos.

I wish I had a dime for everytime I have said this, or read of a bad experience. I lost thousands on two fake Hermes bags so count yourself somewhat lucky...it could have been worse, small consolation I know but true. I WILL NEVER BUY FROM EBAY AGAIN IF IT IS ANYTHING VALUABLE. That is my view, and getting screwed twice in one week without ANY SUPPORT from them taught me well. But I am sorry for your situation, of course.

Feedback if your friend, there are many good sellers. You should be able to issue a stop with your bank on the e-check to paypal however paypal is always good at refunding transactions. I have been on ebay for 3 years to supplement some side business for my auto parts company and transactions go smoothly 95% of the time...over $20,000 in ebay sales and all but one customer has been satisfied. (I have also purchased a couple Coach purses for the FI with no problems)

What I don't understand is that I tried selling a white Murakami Cosy Purse on eBay about a year ago (I've been collecting authentic LV pieces for the past 18+ years--ALL bought DIRECTLY from the LV boutiques in Houston, Paris, Germany, etc; and even some on e-Luxury) and eBay removed my listing, saying it was *not* authentic... I offered to send them the original reciept, via fax, and they refused. I even took even more detailed pics and sent them as well--to no avail.

(Speaking as someone who's been around them her entire life, and has "studied" them very carefullly, I *can* tell if an LV is authentic or not, by the pics--if the inside of the bags are included...and I even authenticate auctions for co-workers and relatives...and only steer them to *very* trusted sellers. On some of them, I can tell just by the outside of the bag--but I can't explain how--I just know; I'm weird!)
My mother has nothing but LV bags; my father gifted her with her very first one in 1952; this is what I mean when I say I've been around them my *entire* life! I'm just glad to know that I'll be inheriting all those bags someday---WOOHOOOO!!!

That still irks me, to this day, to know that they removed my listing, yet there are TONS of fakes listed and they don't do a damn thing about them!!! I sent them a very hot e-mail (I was FUMING and VERY offended by this) and even conversed with my sister, who is a corporate law attorney, as to whether any legal recourse could stem from this, but alas, none that she could put her hands on.

This may sound totally anal, but, this incident just totally pissed me off...I made it my mission to go on eBay, during my spare time, and report the fakes I saw on there! Every time I could, I'd report at least 100 listings...until I got tired and decided to just live and let live. I just can't stand seeing a fake on someone. It makes me wonder if they were gifted with the bag and were told it was authentic--falsely. Or do they even care? I realize a lot of PScopers will chime in and say, "Hey, I have a fake and there's nothing wrong with that!" And I have nothing against the person themselves. I just have a "thing" for spotting fakes and it irks me to see one.

I have a co-worker who tried to pass her fake off as an authentic (white Murakami Alma, which she bought in an outdoor market in Korea); so I went as far as to bring my black Alma Murakami and show her the differences--TACTFULLY, mind you! Needless to say, she doesn't bring it to work anymore! I feel bad about doing it, but she deliberately lied about it to everyone she saw...she *knew* it wasn't authentic...yet she thought no one would know just by looking at it...she thought wrong!

Ok, I'm done ranting and raving for now!!

Gee, that sucks, but at least you managed to get in contact with the seller and seem to be on the way to having it resolved. I am always on the lookout for an LV item here or there on ebay, in particular the limited edition cherry blossom collection b/c there is really no where else to purchase them nowadays.

I have purchased a fake item twice on ebay, both were represented as possibly real, but also as gifts, so the seller was just not certain if it really was or not. Both were wallets.

If I find something I like, I always make sure they send me close up pictures of the heat stamp, the inside label and if they have screws, the inside screws. I also get the date code and pictures of the dustbag b/c sometimes the bag is so real looking, but then they don''t take the time to make sure the dustbag is real looking as well.
If they have the receipt, then I ask for a close up of that as well.
I am also a member of the purse forum, so on occasion, look at their authentication thread to see how well I can spot a fake and I think I posted a bag I was interested in once or twice there as well.

When I first got the CB pieces, I was really unfamiliar with their pieces, so I took it to the LV store in the city to have it authenticated.
If you have any doubts about something at all, don''t bid. Also, just because someone has negative feedback also doesn''t mean that I exclude them from selling real bags, b/c anyone can get negative feedback, but if they have a few - feedbacks, then I don''t bid.

Sometimes it''s better to just buy from the store, especially if you are not saving that much off, but I personally love the thrill of the bidding!

DesiLu What happened to you happens a lot. I think it has to do with THIS

VegasAngel: I didn''t do anything different from, say, the other trusted sellers of LV. I understand the VeRo policies and I adhered to them 10000 percent, in my listingS.

If this is so, then why can anyone else sell LV on eBay without any consequences? Or am I missing something?

Usually they pull it because it triggers ebay thought certain keywords or phrases. Study the legit LV sellers carefully, you''ll eventually find differences in wording that allow them to keep their listings while yours get pulled.

Not fair, but sometimes you''ve got to play their game.
