Is Loupetroop ok to buy from?

I am thinking of buying an item from a seller within. Never done it before.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Loupetroop itself doesn’t have any bearing on the sellers or transactions.
contact the seller and email to ask all questions that are important to you.
Conduct your financial business and personal info as you normally would in any transaction, keeping yourself safe.
like any other platform - there’s scammy sellers and buyers out there.
I think it’s supposed to be geared towards person 2person selling, but there’s some hobby buyers/sellers and businesses on there too.
You can always ask if they happen to be on this forum or any other social media that you’ve interacted with, but of course that’s no real guarantee of ethics and morals.
I’ve had no issues at all in either buying or selling.

Loupetroop is a hosting site, like eBay or Amazon where you'll get all sorts of sellers. Some are private sellers and some are vendors. Some are on PS, some aren't. Doing on own due diligence is of extreme importance.

@Rfisher shared solid advice.

Thanks all. Yes. Ok.

Agree with above. It is a funny mix of pros and amateurs -- and pros pretending to be amateurs, etc. There are a lot of sad tales, true or invented. I see few real "finds" there and a lot of folks anchoring, as the psychologists say, on the inflated price that they paid for a stone or to make a ring.

Loupe Troop is just a selling platform. Sellers can be business sellers or just random people selling stuff they no longer want or like or wear.
There is no feedback for sales (good or bad experience from other buyers) and no dispute resolution facility like EBay.
The normal payment method is PayPal.
PayPal does have a dispute resolution service however because PayPal charges a fee to the seller, the seller often requests a “friends and family payment”. This type of payment offers no recourse if nothing turns up etc etc.
If you are dealing with a PSer with years on this platform you can feel more reassured and trusting using friends and family payment but if you don’t like the risk, offer to pay the extra to cover the PayPal fees.
Also be aware of where the seller resides because you might be liable for any taxes or duties on your purchase. Even pre loved items can be subject to taxes / duties.
Also, request and pay for if necessary a tracked and signed for delivery. Safer that way.

How do you ensure they are only PSers @soxfan? Not being sarcastic, I have some things to sell and haven't a clue how to start. You ask??

They usually will tell me who they are on PS, and I'll look at their posts to make sure they are the up and up. I've never had any issues. My last ring I sold, I met her in Boston (she was new to PS) and we spent the day together. It was so fun!!!

One other thing to note if you are purchasing a high value item and feel uncomfortable with paying FF on PayPal is to ask the seller to use an intermediary appraiser such as Neil Beaty (https://americangemregistry.com/neil-beaty/) to ensure what is described by seller is actually what is being sold. You may bear the cost, but you would have peace of mind before releasing funds. Although I have not used Neil personally, but have purchased pre-loved items on LT, I feel if the item is worth having an independent professional evaluation, I would have used an appraiser and pay for that service.

I have purchased many items from Loupe Troop sellers and only had one really bad experience. It could have happened on any selling platform though.. Don’t be afraid to ask for advice and input here before buying something. I‘m pretty sure I would have been cautioned against buying that item if would have asked for advice here first.
I have also sold a lot of items on Loupe Troop and I don’t use my PS user name or list the items in pre-loved here. I find it a bit strange that so many people do, since this is meant to be an anonymous forum for good reason. If I feel like I “know” someone, I will tell them my user name, but I don’t make a habit out of it. I’m sure there are others selling on LT from PS under a different user name too. Just sharing another perspective :))
