Hi everyone! This is my first time posting here, and I''ve been reading through a lot and finding a lot of great information. So here''s my question/quest for advice. I have been shopping in the mall stores and really like the Helzberg Diamond Masterpiece (helzberg.com item #1611526). (Online it''s a bit more - in the store it''s about $9999.) I actually don''t care for the setting it''s in at the store, but it''s the diamond that I love. It looks better than any other diamond I''ve seen anywhere.

Now, that being said, I don''t know enough about diamonds to figure out how to replicate that look, or even get one that''s better, by shopping online. Looking at pictures just doesn''t do it - even the Helzberg.com picture doesn''t look good compared to the way it looked in the store.

So, any input would be greatly appreciated. I can spend the $10,000, but my ideal price range is about $8000.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome!

Very seriously, you can get equal to better quality for so much less. If buying online bothers you, I''d recommend calling a jewelry store in NY that happens to also have a website, Good Old Gold. It is a family-owned store that has been in business a long time and isn''t likely to go anywhere. I came on here about 3 years ago because my husband was going to buy me a new ring for our anniversary. After being on this site awhile, I decided I wanted a perfectly cut stone, and the hearts and arrows diamonds were at the top of the heap! The diamonds you are speaking of have this kind of cut, so the ones I am referring you to are the same cut quality at least. I looked at Helzburg so I know this for sure. Anyway, we ended up getting the diamond for my ring from Jonathan at Good Old Gold. If you search the site, you can see pictures of the actual store to know it is not just an itnernet venture. But he does put his stones online which helps with shopping. If you decide to order a stone, you have a full 30 days to decide whether you want to return it, no questions asked. We did order 2 stones to look at and returned one with a prompt refund. Later, I bought 2 hearts and arrows stones from WhiteFlash for diamond studs. Those diamonds are called A Cut Above, and those are that company''s top cut quality branded stones. WF was conceived as an internet company, but there have been hundreds of satisfied buyers who have posted here, and the same for Good Old Gold.

Here are their sites:

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I live in Pensacola Florida where there''s only a very small selection of good Jewelry stores to go to with the exception of the mall. I''m about to drive up to Atlanta to visit Tiffany''s (that''s the closest one!) and Jared''s. After looking to see what they have, I''m going to compare with the online sources you''ve mentioned, and go from there.

Thanks for your help - and we''ll see where this adventure takes me!

Good luck with your search! Tiffany''s is a very good starting point to see high quality rings. You''ll find you can reproduce their quality level for a good bit less money. Although a Tiffany ring is certainly very special! (I have the Tiffany Legacy wedding band and I love it!). I''d be more hesitant about Jared''s. It seems like there may be posts on here about them that are not quite as favorable.

Come back and let us know what you decide!

Well, after a weekend in Atlanta, looking at all kinds of stones and rings, I purchased this great ring from Tiffany''s. I''m extremely happy with it, and while I almost went with a loose stone from Jared''s that was an amazing steal, I felt I would never truly be content without this one. It''s a .84, I, VVS2.

Thanks for your help!
