Lovely vintage ring with a transitional diamond center

This is a gorgeous ring, but I have never bothered to have it sized to fit me. I was waiting until I found a matching band, which I never did. The performance on this ring is out of this world, and I'm happy to answer any questions you may have. Thank you!

Is there metal around the outside of the center diamond? I am having a hard time telling in the photos. Do you have any idea of the mm size?

There is metal in kind of a ribbon around the stone. My best guess is around 6mm for the stone alone.

Would a band sit flush with that or maybe a small gap? Also do you know anything about the girdle? I imagine having that extra gold around the stone might protect the girdle if it is thin.

A band would sit pretty darn flush with it. I don't know much about the girdle because I bought it as an intact ring. However it is very well protected. I will say that I had it under microscope yesterday and I didn't see anything concerning, though I am not a jeweler or a gemologist.
