Hi MAC-W
Can you tell me what the jobs were that you were referring to? And maybe point me in the right direction? I seriously might be interested, but I would need a job that would be willing to hire from the US and pay for relocation as well as sponsor a visa. I'm not sure how to find a position that offers that.

I have a US law degree and have been Commercial Contracts Manager with an emphasis in Procurement and Supply Chain contracts for 3+ years at major global companies.

I currently work in a circus as a babysitter to a vengeful god. :wink2:

Hi Gypsy,
I posted some info in your other thread (the "dear god not funny" one) about jobs sites to look at.

Regarding relocation costs, lots of the bigger companies will offer that as part of the package and will sort out your visas as well. Generally its the international companies that do this, not the smaller australia only companies.

You could also try applying via their US offices as well (most are in Houston) and doing it as an internal company transfer.

Some companies in OZ in the Oil and gas industry and mining industry that I know offer international relocation are BHP Billiton, WorleyParsons, RioTinto, Chevron, FosterWheeler, Clough & KBR. There are probably more in other industries but those are the ones I know for sure will consider it.

Do any of your previous companies have Australian branches? Perhaps you could apply to them and mention your american experience with their company? It might make it easier if you can show you have history with them.

One person to talk with might be Mike Duncan at Hays Recruitment. He's super helpful and could probably give lots of good advice. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post his contact details here but if you go to the Hays website link I posted in your other thread you will be able to get the main reception telephone number of the Perth Office and could give him a call, bearing in mind the time differences LOL

Also are you on http://www.linkedin.com? If you are, you could connect with Mike that way his profile is at http://au.linkedin.com/pub/mike-duncan/6/54a/89b. A lot of the Australian recruiters have profiles there so you could connect with lots of good contacts. I've been offered a few jobs via my linkedin profile so I know that route works.

If you want to ask PSAdmin for my email details, I'm happy to release them to you and then I can give you more specific contacts and names and maybe put you in touch with my company which is on the list above.

ETA: you mentioned about dual citizenship on your other thread. Are you still eligible for that? cos if you were then that would remove the need for a visa.

exactly what i was thinking and even more specific contacts from Mac.

Gypsy, i'll be in perth next month. i'll ask around with my in-laws.

i think the linked-in and recruiter is the way to go for you.

Hey MoZo,

How's your FIL? Is his health better or is this another of those visits like last time? How long you coming over for this time?

(Sorry for the threadjack Gypsy)

Mac, FIL dodged another bullet a few weeks ago. he's back home for now. so, this trip is again to facilitate seeing him before his demise. we arrive november 10 and leave november 19...... he's been in/out of hospital at least 3 times that we know of since january and twice has had 4 units of blood while in hospital. there is no long term prognosis. actually, he was given about 6 months in january so one could say he's doing better than anticipated!

hey MoZo,
I'm so sorry to hear that its not a happy trip, but yay that your FIL has dodged another bullet and you and your husband are getting more time with him than expected back in January. You (hopefully still) have my contact details from the last time, so if there is anything I can do to help while you are here then please, just let me know.

back on topic.....

Gypsy,
one other thing I thought of, is that if you own your own home in US and rent it out when you come to OZ, then you might / should be eligible for LAFHA (living away from home allowance) - see www.lafha.com.au for more details.

You probably know this already cos of your father already living in Australia, but property here is quite expensive. You can check prices at www.realestate.com.au or www.reiwa.com.au . You can sometimes (but not always) negotiate housing assistance for the first 12 months as part of your relocation package. Its worth asking the question.

I spoke with Mike Duncan today and mentioned that you might be thinking about coming to OZ. He told me (based on the limited info about your career background that I was able to give him) that he has 2 jobs he is currently sourcing that he thinks you would be considered for and both of them are 457 eligible, so yay. PHONE HIM!

Regards
Mac

MZ sorry to hear about your FIL.

MAC and MZ, I will follow up with the contacts listed next week. I have a day that I can work from home and I will have the privacy to what I need then. ((HUGS)) and many thanks for the comprehensive information.
