So.... I made the Engagement Chicken recipie last night and we'll see if it works! The chicken came out perfect. It didn't really have a lemon taste to it even though I added lemon juice and put lemons inside of it, but I did douse it with Olive Oil and put some sea salt on top, and it gave it a nice golden brown color. My boyfriend was so thankful and loved it, he kept complimenting me on the nice dinner. We had steamed broccoli instead of asparagus, and I made red bliss potatoes baked in olive oil, rosemary, and of course some wine. The dinner was fun to make and it was nice getting semi dressed up and enjoying our time together. It made for a good date night.

Send some dust my way ladies! :)

I hope it works! I think I am going to try making BBQ ribs for SO this weekend... I have a rotisserie, so roasted chickens aren't a "special" meal over here

... (I actually made a wonderful roasted chicken sunday dinner for my sister yesterday...)

I don't eat pork or red meat, so he will know that the meal is JUST for him if I make ribs.

I think next after that will be a pot pie, and then salisbury steak. (I don't eat any of them, so it's all about him) Maybe an apple pie could be in the works...

We have an anniversary coming up in September (5 yrs), and we just made our plans to go to a resort in Myrtle Beach, and I am SO excited. Not expecting anything, just excited! But we know how these things go, if the girlfriend is happy, then he's REALLY happy!

I'm also secretly working out (shhhh!) so that I can be fly at this weddding, and for the upcoming anniversary!

Let's get it girls!

Keep us posted on the E-chicken progress!!!!

Heh, I saw an article in this month''s Glamour about Engagement Chicken. They were comparing it to some other recipe for "Manloaf" -- I think they said Billy Joel''s wife swears it''s what hooked him.

I showed SO the article because I thought the whole thing was funny but I think he thought it was just a bit... weird. Haha.

I guess the premise is that mastering a traditional dish like that might make one seem more wifely? For SO, I think a really great pot roast would probably do the trick (he''s a red meat guy all the way).

I hope it worked, ringless!

I made engagement chicken last fall, and it didn''t work for me! I hardly ever cook, so bf was quite suspicious to begin with, and I think it has a deadline of 3 months which would have been December. Maybe I''ll try the meatloaf next time!

Thanks girls! Did I mention during the dinner he kept saying "this is wife material".. um, hello? lol I made him french toast last weekend and he said the same thing... I can get used to hearing that! haha
I cook a lot for the two of us, but I made sure I let him know this was a special dinner that took some time to make and I had it "planned", so he was really looking forward to it. He asked if he could bring anything (we don't live together) and I said "yes, you can get some wine". He was excited so it was cute. I had him do a manly thing and he cut the chicken for us and served us, but he was quiet through most of the dinner b/c he said it was very delicious

Since I didn't have anything lined up for dessert we went out and got some icecream and rented a movie. It was just a really good night.

Thanks for the dust... my birthday is next week, and his is a couple weeks after that. Im not expecting it that soon, but hoping it's before Christmas at least!

Here''s some more PS Dust!!!

Engagement chicken hey?! Maybe I should try that - is it a specific recipe or can I just pop to down KFC

It does sounds very wifely though It''s a great souce of amusement for our families, especially SO''s sisters and Mum, that went we are together and he asks me for something or I do something for him, I get a cheeky look on my face and tell him - you know what you need honey, you need a wife! It just cracks everyone up and he has absolutely nothing to say as a comeback cause he knows I am a domestic goddess and would make a fab wife (even if I don''t mind saying so myself).

***DUST***

Sounds like it partially worked!

Honey22 - You can google "engagement chicken recipie" and you will find a Glamour magazine article it originated from... but the recipie has been copied and printed on other sites as well. I am a domestic goddess as well! lol

Thanks for the dust girls... I''ll keep everyone posted.

Yum! Engagement chicken sounds delish! Perhaps I''ll make it myself...it might help me with my upgrade!!
Good luck girls!!!
*heart*

I made baby back ribs for SO this weekend, which gives great effect since it is slow cooked... it makes it look like you are really laboring to make that meal. He was very pleased, and very kissy and complimentary

going on and on about how wonderful I am, since I made it just for him! (I don''t eat red meat or pork). I think next I will try salisbury steak...
