I''m planning to use MAC for my wedding makeup because I''ve heard such great things about their makeup staying on all day and look great in photos. I''m a little nervous though because I don''t wear much makeup and would love to look natural, but good in photos. I''m worried that they''ll do a little too much with the color. Should I take in photos of what I''m going for, or should I just trust that they know what what to do with my coloring?

Also, where did you find pictures for your makeup inspriation?

Glad to hear you''re doing a trial first. I know I fall into the minority, but my skin is VIOLENTLY allergic to MAC makeup! They did the makeup for my cousin''s wedding when I was a bridesmaid, and I wound up having to leave the reception about half an hour after it started because my face felt like it was on fire, and I had huge hives for about a week before they chilled out. Please post pix afterward if you don''t mind--I love looking at beautiful bridey makeup!

Oh no! Are you allergic to any other makeup or products? I''m not able to do my trial until the week before my wedding because I live out of town... that makes me a little nervous!

Hmm okay, I just read some reviews about MAC and apparently it breaks a lot of people out... I''m already prone to break outs and have to be really careful with my skin. Any other makeup brand suggestions??

I also have issues with anything Lancome and Mary Kay. In my case, it''s not breakouts; I''m blessed with usually almost freakishly clear skin, but I do have allergic reactions to certain things. I''ve never had issues with Clinique, Cover Girl, or Maybelline products, and for my wedding, I wore Bare Escentuals mineral makeup, which was also fine with my skin. My hairdresser, who is also one of my closest friends, used mostly makeup I already owned on my skin and the salon''s makeup for everything else (lips, eyes, and so on), so if you found someone who does makeup who would allow you to use some of your own products, you could use what you already know doesn''t cause problems for you. I know some people also have issues with mineral makeup because it can cling to wrinkles, lines, scars, etc., but if you have pretty smooth skin, this probably wouldn''t be an issue for you either. You could go to the mall and try a few trials with other makeup lines before having an official wedding makeup trial. I''m sorry if I''m rambling--I can be long-winded!

Hmm, usually the makeup that gives me trouble is anything that is not oil free or hypoallergenic. Maybe I should do some more resesarch. I certainly can''t afford to do tons of trials, the one at MAC is $50! Do you know if MAC or other places offer samples that I could try out ahead of time?

I don''t know about samples, but I know I''ve tested products before by using the little makeup samples that sometimes come in fashion magazines, haha! That''s how I found out that Clinique doesn''t bother me! I''m wondering if you explained to the person at the makeup counter that you were curious about having an adverse reaction and told them you wanted to do a kind of patch test first if they''d be willing to give you like a q-tip worth of makeup just to test your skin''s reaction to it. Maybe they''d go along with it if they thought you''d book an appointment with them in the future provided that you responded positively to the product.

My skin has been nuts recently and everything is causing either rashes or breakouts or just raw skin (or all three). Mac powders, foundations, etc. made me break out even before this though. I've been using Aveda translucent loose powder and so far, so good. I'm thinking about trying out a few of their other skin products as a result. I got the translucent powder recommendation from my MUA for my wedding and she had only good things to say about that product.

I'll know within 12 hours if I'm going to react, so I try stuff out on a patch and just let it sit to see if anything reacts before buying. Even then though... I sporting a burn from a product I used to be able to use without any problems and used this morning and a few hours later... BAM, rash, burning, raw skin. I'll wake up tomorrow all broken out too.

I hope you find something that works. I just said 'the heck with it' and asked for hypo allergenic products on my wedding day and yes, the day after my skin was broken out... but for that day it was fine and there were no rashes or anything.

I''m not too worried about the wedding day itself because like you said, I will break out the day after, not the wedding day. I''m more concerned about not doing my trial until the week of the wedding... I don''t want to breakout and have that last until my wedding day!

I''m sure you could go into a MAC store or to a MAC counter and let them know you are considering using the makeup for your wedding and want to test if you will break out and they will let you test the products. I have pretty volatile skin, and MAC didn''t irritate me at all.

I would bring in pictures to your actual trial if possible, regardless of where you go.

And finally, I know this is not the case for all places, and the MAC I went to was in a mall in a really small town, but my makeup artist refused to let me buy anything or pay during my trial, only wanted me to buy the lipstick on the wedding day (although I bought more) and absolutely refused to accept a tip. She was amazing and I would definitely recommend MAC to anyone.

Its not $50 for the trial at MAC, you just have to spend $50 on products for them to apply your makeup. I would definitely go to MAC and talk to their makeup artists. Everytime I have gone, they have been really helpful. Plus you can get a full refund or exchange on any products you decide you don''t want (I have done this many times

You''re right, but that''s still $50 I have to spend for them to try it out on me. I''ll go talk to them next weekend and see what I can do... I don''t want to break out the week before my wedding

Hopefully you don''t break out! That would be bad, but like I said, you can definitely return all the products if you don''t like them. They will fully refund you!

If you aren''t sure about what makeup to use, I would recommend Laura Mercier or Trish MacAvoy.

Of course, it depends on the look you are going for, but both of those brands tend to give really pretty, polished looks that I think would be great for your wedding day.

I love both Laura Mercier and Trish McEvoy. Their colors are SO wearable. Bobbi Brown is also great.

Yeah, I love Bobbi Brown. I have a BB blush that is the EXACT color I naturally turn when I flush--freaking LOOOOOOOOVE it...okay, I''m singing opera about a cosmetic. Need to stop!

You know, I might stop by their counter this week... I''ve heard good things. Will their work look good in my photos?

Very. Tell them you''re having pics taken so they know to apply it appropriately (you need on more for pictures)
