I'm feeling good about wedding/reception planning these past two weeks. I feel less overwhelmed and out of control, and more like this is a manageable set of finite decisions.
*I made my spreadsheet for my guestlist, and already have more than half of the addresses.
*I've pinpointed some websites for STD's and have made plans with my mom to get those done ASAP so that they can go out in time to give people 6 months notice. (she thought this was way too early, but I've had to insist that it is not)
*I've mentally committed to our location, pending a visit to Atlantic City, and I'm actually excited about it!
*started working out to get in top wedding form.
*had some very frank convos with my family about our wedding and reception, and while I am firm on us eloping privately, they are moving closer to an understanding that we can be creative with the reception, and it can have important elements in it for them, like dad and mom escorting me in, or presenting me, and FI and I being having our union blessed (even though we are not religious or spiritual), or a unity candle being lit to represnt our united families. We draw the line at saying vows in front of people, but we are truly openminded about the rest.
*While my parents are hosting and paying for the reception, FI's parents just gave us money for our wedding. It's not a ton of money, but more than enough to allow us to afford the honeymoon of *my* dreams (yes, I said mine. FI has been woefully silent in this department, lol), or to pay for our hotel, food, photographers, etc in Atlantic City for our elopement. It's hard though... the more I think about money, the more I want to scale down our already very simple plans and just save as much money as possible. *sigh*
*got a fantastic deal on an engagement photoshoot... a $300+ package for $50!!! God I love Groupon.com!
lastly, I got a garter that has our alma mater all over it many, many years ago. I've decided that if we are not having that element in our reception (I don't care either way), then I'm going to leave it on the beach with a note, and in a plastic bag. I like the idea of someone finding such a thing, and wondering who left it.
Thanks for reading.... I was going to post in the random comments thread, but I so rarely feel 'bride-like' that I decided to go ahead and post it in BWW. I know it's not a LOT of progress, but it's something, and I feel good about it.
