When is the marriage license signed? Before or after the wedding ceremony? What did you do?

I''m leaning towards signing it before the ceremony so after it''s done with we will officially be married and don''t have to worry about the paperwork.

we dd ours at the rehearsal (us and the witnesses). We never saw it after that. I am assuming the priest signed it after and sent it out..

We actually got married at the courthouse two days before our wedding. Shhh! Don''t tell!

We wanted my college professor to marry us but he wasn''t "legal" in Oregon, just CA or KY. So we decided to get married on paper first, and let the ceremony be exactly how we wanted.

a girl i know is passing on $8,000 in grant money from the government because her wedding is 8 days past the deadline to file her FAFSA for fed. aid.....so i told her to go to the courthouse the last day before she could file and get married on paper and pretend liek nothing is differetn adn then have the ceremony and celebrate that as the real day..........she told me i was crazy and is having to get a student loan for the $8,000 her and her husband are passing on....so when they finish paying off the $8,000....it could be liek 15,000-20,000........crazy stuff huh?

That''s crazy of her. I''d follow your recommedation!

It was funny, though...we were very nonchalant about going to the courthouse, and then there we were saying vows in front of a judge, and we were like..."WOW." But it was a special moment, just for the two of us and our parents, without the hoopla that can sometimes obscure the real meaning of the wedding day.

If I wasn''t in CA, I may have done that too! I want someone we know to marry us so it''s more personal.

I would have gone to city hall and gotten married officially 8 days before in a heartbeat! Haha. My FI would agree too. Crazy to pass that 8K up!

We had ours all signed before the ceremony took place. That way you don''t have to worry about it after the ceremony when you are trying to take pictures. Plus it''s not all that romantic... so it''s nice to get it out of the way. After all that, all you have to worry about is changing your name. I''m STILL going through the process of getting it done! Hope your wedding day is lovely

We signed it right after the ceremony. Have pictures of us signing it, our pastor signing it, etc. It''s not a big deal. If you don''t want pictures of it, just have everyone sign it at a more convenient time. It''s all how you view it anyways. I had two weddings. We''re only going to count one of them as our "wedding day". That''s why, I''m sorry, but I think that girl who is eating $8000 + interest cuz she won''t sign a paper a few days early is just simply stupid.

haha yea.....i was like you''re completely stupid for doing that...we''re having the pastor who i am assisting this summer marry us...we have been friends for 3 or 4 years and get together ALL the time and him and I play guitar together and he and his wife just got married so they''re sharing tips every now and then with us from what they''ve learned with wedding planning and stuff...it''s really nice....he JUST got ordained...i guess since he''s a pastor at a church all he had to do was go online and pay some fee and they send him a certificate.....kind of funny haha...i''m not sure what Indiana''s laws are regarding that though but i know he''s giong to do it and we''re going to be his first...so that''s exciting because he''s a VERY good friend of ours.

We also signed right after the ceremony. It was all filled out beforehand except the signatures.

That''s pretty awesome. My BM is a minister as well. I talked to my fiancee about asking him to marry us, but she didn''t like the idea. Something about him being the same age as us. I think she envisioned having a older pastor perform the duties. I can sort of agree and we''re just going to use the pastor at the church that we attend.

On topic: We haven''t discussed when we are going to sign the license. I think it will be something that we consider as the date approaches.

We had to sign it when we got it at the town clerk''s office. Then we just handed it to the minister the day before the wedding, and he signed it sometime after the ceremony on his own.

We signed ours at the courthouse. When our marriage was blessed by the church we signed it again after the cermony... My children were our witnesses.. it was beautiful... It was a special moment.

We signed ours at the clerk of courts when we purchased it, but the officiant didn''t sign it until after our ceremony.

We''re such geeks, we assumed we''d have to sign it after we were "officially" married. I kind of like it that way, anyway- signing it as one of the first things we do as man and wife.

Wow... are we the only couple that signed ours during the ceremony? We exchanged vows, lit the unity candle and then signed the license. I never saw that at any ceremony we attended before, but I thought it was really nice since we only had immediate family and two very close friends at our wedding. Our witnesses had already signed it at the rehearsal. Has anyone else signed it during the ceremony?

we signed it at the courthouse when we got it, but it wasn''t official until after the ceremony, when our witnesses (MOH and BM) and officiant signed it...

I just looked at my marriage license and realized we already signed ours when we obtained it at city hall. For some reason, I always thought the couple signed their marriage license the day of the wedding as well. But turns out just the witness(es) and officiant needs to sign it/fill it out. So we''ll just do that whenever we have time that day.

we signed our at the courthouse and then our pastor signed it after the wedding.
