Hey Mara, just a thought here. You have mentioned a couple of times here that you wish you''d gone with the 2 pointers for your e-ring instead of the 3 pointers.

Since your wedding ring has the 2 pointers and your e-ring has the 3 pointers, would it be possible for Whiteflash or someone to simply move the head of your e-ring to the 2-point band? I know they would have to make modifications to both rings, but I wonder how involved it would be?

That way you''d have the extra skinny band for the solitaire to make your center diamond really pop. And you''d still have the same width overall with both rings together.

Just a thought.

I second that. Or just yknow, have your setting remade with an identical copy of your wedding band.

But then what would she do with have her e-ring setting? We can''t be wasteful!

Besides, I like when the wedding band is wider than the e-ring.

She won''t have an extra if she just plops a stone in that spot, assuming it can be done that way. Or she can use those stones, melt down the ring and make something else, or another band with those. :)

mine will be! I called Denise today and it should be ready Monday! WOOHOOO!

I have been pestering Ryan all week and he finally just said "yknow, you can call them and ask for yourself, Im busy this week with work." so I did, :)

haha Patty...

You guys are like mind readers! Lately, I actually have been considering at some point in the future having WF recreate my e-ring with 2 pointers and/or redoing the entire ring but with smaller prongs, the way they did my w-ring, so that it would be thinner.

Lynn''s e-ring stone is only about 2.3mm with 3 pointers and she got 4 prong setting too...so I am hoping maybe mine has the possibility of beingthinner as well? It''s 2.9mm and is wider than I had originally requested when we were having it made, I requested nothing bigger than 2.5mm but obviously when it''s done it''s done and it is what it is. I know if my stone was on my w-ring width, it would look much bigger, and getting that extra size look without actually having a huge stone is better for the budget of course...but on the other hand I really do like how my w-ring is thinner than my e-ring because it does stand out and it looks like 2 rings.

So at this point it''s all just thought and speculation and what if. I would like to use my original 3 pointer stones if I did something, but on the other hand, I wouldnt mind making the whole thing with ACA melee. So I could always keep the 3 pointers for another project or as ame pointed out, have it made into a basic eternity band...but who knows really!

The other thing to think about for me is that I eventually do want a bigger stone, much bigger! So who knows, a 3c on a 2.9mm band may be perfect!

Maybe I should sell it like that to Greg...but honey, my ring *needs* a bigger diamond to complement it!

SO many options, diamonds and fingers....so little time!!

Well I see I didn''t give you any new ideas, lol.

Yes, you will need a substantial band to support your 3 carat upgrade!

Yipes! 3 Cts on that band will be....blinding and ....like lifting weights.

Well, I for one, cannot wait to see the result.

Mara,

You''ve mentioned upgrading later this year. Are you going to go straight to the 3ct, or are you going to upgrade in smaller increments? If so, what size do you have your eye on next? I am just dying for a 2.25 ct ideal cut stone. I think I''d be happy with that. Until, of course, diamond shrinkage sets in. Or would it...

Hah I wish I could go directly to the 3c!! However, that''s definitely not going to happen...not this year anyway! The plan is to get something that is bigger this year and slowly work my way up. Hopefully within 5 years I can have the 3c! then I am hoping that will BE IT, for that ring anyway! Though Headlight''s post about her 3.29 made me think, okay maybe a 3.29 is my max.

I have tried on a 5c oval before and it was too big and it looked gaudy on my hand. So I do know that 5c would be way over the top fof me..but having had seen 3c on alot of hands before and in person, I really like that look. So I figure I can''t keep going up because 5c is too big...so hopefully around that 3c mark is the max for me.

I don''t know Mara..I now believe the old saying "NEVER SAY NEVER". I remember when my MIL got her almost 4 ct RB and I thought I would NEVER wear something that big. Mind you, I am now in possession of it and I think the size is PERFECT!!!! I always thought 2.5 ct was big enough for me but with "shrinkage" setting in my diamonds kept getting bigger! YIKES!! I know that my 5 ct is very large but I have to say that even with "shrinkage factor" I sometimes feel like I should have gone up to a 6 ct. I know it''s all in my mind though because a 5 ct is HUGE! Sometimes I think I''m just nuts (and your welcome to agree with me!

).

Anyway, when you do decide to upgrade I hope that you get exactly what you dream of! I don''t care what size your center stone is....it will look FABULOUS on your e-ring. I love, love, love that style that you chose! I''m debating on settings for my fancy yellow diamond and yours is in the running. I just can''t decide if the delicate band will get lost with a 5 ct radiant plunked on top. I''d love your thoughts on it.

Di...it''s funny you ask that Q about my ring with your big ole diamond...

I love checking out this website''s monster stones and their settings. Maybe you can get some ideas!

This first link has alot of big rocks on pave settings! I love that 2nd one with the diamond bezel, your yellow would look fabulous in a white diamond pave bezel on a thin setting IMO!

and here is a link that shows just fancy yellows and settings--most are 3 stones though:

and then I wanted to post this one too because it has a funky yellow green asscher on a thin pave band with a PINK diamond bezel, now that is unique!

In terms of never say never, I KNOW...trust me. I am just hoping 3c is it for me...but I also love your 3 stone ring too...yikes! I think that there is just no cure for me...hee hee. Only time will tell!

Thank you so much for sending me to those sites. All of the rings are beautiful! It''s so funny that you picked the second ring on icestore. That was another setting that came to mind but after thinking about it, I came to the conclusion that the ring would be BEAUTIFUL but TOO big. Don''t you think? Rings like reena''s and lovey''s are FABULOUS and I think their carat weight is perfect. (I''ll look into one of those another year!

) Mine is already in a three stone ring (with trillions) so I''m trying to get away from that look. I want something different (although I''m not sure I want to add more color). Maybe if I use .09 pointers to match my yellow and white eternity ring that it might balance out.

I tend to think that your ring might be just what I''m looking for! I saved it a while back but I think I will print it out and hang it on the wall above my computer!

I love yours EXACTLY the way it is....SIMPLE AND ELEGANT!

Thanks for indulging me. I so enjoy reading your opinions.

I actually like this one...It's a 5c as well and look at that baby go!!

If you remove the bezel around this one, it probably looks somewhat like the Britney Spears ring, but I do like that split shank, it gives some added interest, and helps balance out the larger stones so rather than having it on one thin band, it can be two.

I think this ring withouth the diamond bezel would be beautiful with the radiant!

and I really love this one, it would look fabulous with a radiant, it''s a 5c cushion on a 3 sided pave band. The thicker band compliments the stone pretty well. Love the double prongs!!

I think LM could do something really fabulous with your stone, di!

Ahhh...great minds think alike! The first one I thought of was the split shank (DanielK) setting without the halo. I still haven''t ruled it out. Then I thought of the three sided pave band...Leon Mege (of course!) but I''m not sure about doing it long distance. I know for sure that I would be extremely hesistant about mailing my stone. The only way to work with him is to take a few trips to NY...not sure that my DH is willing to go that far for a piece of jewelry!!
emcry.gif
I''ve been talking but I think it''s been going in one ear and out the other!!!!

For now, I think your ring is in first place! I know that eventually I would like a ring similar to reena''s with the cushion and three sided pave so I think I want them each to have a different look. Heck, it''s all so confusing!!!

Thanks Mara!

uh oh! so this weekend Greg''s dad and stepmom were visiting with us, she has about a 2.5c e-ring...I tried it on and it looked great, but not HUGE. Does this mean that I won''t be able to stop at 3c? egads!
32.gif

oh and on a secretly evil note...i put her ring and my ring on the same finger and while her ring sparkles in general very nicely, i could instantly see the cut differences between my stone and hers when compared side by side, hers looked a bit milky and also looked as though it had less facets compared to the shattered glass sparkles of mine. of course i didn''t say a thing, but inside i was saying....my ring sparkles more even if it is smaller (for now anyway!)

heee.

Mara
forget about the weight, just buy a 10mm ideal cut H SI 1 or H VS2.
