So I’ve determined this is how the marquise will be set re: halo.

I would love photos of shanks and baskets you think would look best

How fancy should the gallery be?
Split shank?
Tri wire?

It’ll be a yellow gold shank

I’m thinking some diamonds in the shank like this one would pull the white metal into the shank and make it more cohesive. But is it too fancy?

So to make sure I'm understanding what I'm seeing...
- yellow gold prong set cup? or ?
- airline
- slim halo

Does that matter in terms of what basket and shank you’d suggest or do you want to understand it to critique it?

It’s going to have an airline halo and a fake bezel with prongs like a collet

I don’t think it’s too fancy. I rather like it and think it’s cohesive with the rest of it (but that’s probably obvious since I have a similar style myself).
I could take or leave a tri-wire but I’m a huge split shank fan so I say yes to that.

Similar to this on my ruby ring?

Yes to split shank -- gives balance and structural integrity. And it looks cool.

Your know I love tri-wire (obviously), but you can't resize them. Don't know if that's an issue for you, but I never realized it until I had one. :)

I’m loving your design! Love the yellow bezel with prongs. The airline halo. The yelllow and plat together. I really like the idea of split shank or even tri split? Am I making sense? Like the CVB tri splits? Not loving the tri wire shank with this ring. But that really means nothing if you love it obviously!

I’d love a pic of what you mean. Also, if I didn’t add diamonds to the shank would you do yellow gold or plat for the shank

And most definitely not tri-wire for this style (I don't even think it could be done with that style anyway... not to look good or flow well). Solid shank.

Will look! Would do yellow. I’ve been into the yellow shanks with the multi color tops. Like the casa for example.

HI:

Any chance you are interested in "some" black metal? I have some pale yellow sapphires in earrings that combine a lot of "color" and IMHO look good. Contrast and all.

It’s fun but for this ring for everyday wear I don’t think it’s for me. My next set of studs I’d like to do in blackened gold but for this I think I’d rather stick with something less flashy

I’m feeling this shank and having the gold start where the diamonds end

I’m feeling this basket. I wish it looked more like a spider web

Like a spider web- imagine that you’re looking at the ring like the same angle as the one above. Something like this

Niel, hopefully some of these images might be useful to you.

As you know there are so many ideas for shanks/galleries. Guess it depends if you want an elaborate design or something more simple. I Iooked at tri wire or a few diamonds on the shank when I was going through the CAD progress with my engagement ring and there are some good images throughout that thread, you did comment on the thread so you may well remember.

I really like this one too- I prefer it to the one with the uniform shank. I like a little graduation, has more balance to my eye. I do think I prefer a split style especially on larger stones, but that’s just my preference.

I wish I had put more thought into the gallery design, I just went with whatever and while what I have is fine it doesn’t excite me. I do like the idea of the spiderweb like one- feels edgy and fun.

I appreciate your support I can tell @ac117 does not support my spider web dreams. Haha

I like the one just above too! It’s gorgeous! Can’t wait to see what you choose :kiss2:

Hahaha I wouldn't say I don't support it, I think if it's a detail you'll enjoy then by all means! I'm just bad at envisioning things so it's hard for me to be all for something when I don't really know what it'll look like.

Looking at some of the images here, I'm also leaning towards the split shank like @leukolenos's ruby ring and the opal ring you've posted. I think it will balance out the weight of the top and tie in the two tone of the top.

Do you like this? Not as spidery but a similar effect...

@Niel when I saw this, l thought of you and your marquise:))...

Two-tone like this with plat and YG? (Although not this specific design.)

Here is some inspiration for you...take the spidery part...get rid of the center diamond (make that the donut area), get rid of rubie halo, convex
the spidery area and stretch the top and bottom diamond areas out towards the end of the marquise. Hope you have a good imagination...

Edit...here, I outlined in black the part I was talking about turning into a gallery

If you like a split shank I have a different version of one. It's kinda offset on each side swooping up.
