Martini Earrings Sitting Too High

We recently purchased diamond earrings for my birthday, they are beautiful however they sit much higher than I expected and I am wondering if this is normal for the size (2.80 ctw)? Attaching a photo to show the space between the end of the diamond and the bottom of the martini setting where the post starts I feel like there is a lot of space there. My jeweler said she can create a new custom setting to make them sit lower which is another added cost, is there any negative to doing that? They have to fix one of them anyways because it came lopsided a bit as you can see in the photo. Opinions, advice would be appreciated! Thank you! IMG_4579.jpegIMG_4800.png

I agree it's suboptimal in a bunch of ways. Cantilevering the stone so far forward makes no sense and it appears to be a matter of economy and not a design aesthetic.

I prefer tailor-made mountings that "hug" or directly abut the pavilion. Even as gaps go, this looks enormous. Maybe this is a "one-size-fits-most" and they just solder in a different ring?

You are correct, she said that they just use a one size fits all setting as a default $250 (white gold). I had no idea considering we picked out the diamonds I would have imagined it was a custom setting. She would be charging us an additional $350 for a custom setting to have it lowered. How low should they be? Thank you for your input!

wooh that gap is huge

You should have just enough room under the culet to clean. Tiny air gap, no more.

Thank you. Would you say this is a good size air gap on the earrings in attached photo? I wanted to send them a photo as I decided to have them remake a custom setting, to make sure we are on same page. IMG_4845.jpeg

It looks good to my eyes.

Thank you for your help! I appreciate it. As a side note, did I get ripped off spending $600 for a custom 14k white gold setting? From your experience? I feel like this whole situation has been not so great.

For white gold? Yes. That feels high. My platinum martini settings were around $500 from BGD.
