@kenny I can’t get the video to work. I’ll try to find it..

This is so sad..

Horrifying & sad. The people who cared for the inhabitants of the aquarium must be devastated.

Now I feel bad about having aquariums.

Of course I feel bad for the fish, but I want to read the eventual investigation report.
I mean, how the HELL could THIS happen?

Where did the engineering, design, or manufacturing fail?
I want to see the math. (maths for you Brits)
Or, did something bang into it, perhaps a diver's heavy metal scuba tank?
After all it did hold water for a while.

Did a human make a mistake, like what was found when the Hubble Space Telescope didn't work.
They had to send the Space Shuttle up to install corrective optics.
That boo boo was traced to an engineer mistaking a metric unit for Imperial unit.:doh::doh:
Opps.

This aquarium bursting must have made a god-awful sound.
I'm surprised people below weren't killed.
A gallon of water weighs 8.34 pounds, so 265,000 of them weighs over 2 million pounds.

Talk about a headache.

Of course I feel bad for the fish, but I'm very interested to read the details of the investigation report.
... as in, how the HELL could THIS happen?

I want to know as much as possible about the engineering that failed.

"Ouch! My head hurts!"

Of course this isn’t the same…but have you noticed all the reports of glass lids shattering on pots? There are warnings in the packaging about it. It doesn’t even have to be heated for them to spontaneously shatter. I know that the pressure from the water in the aquarium contributed to it..I’m assuming (I know what they say) that the aquarium was tempered glass..I’m wondering what made them think this was a good idea..

It was made of plexiglass aka plastic.
If a seam split where it was joined together it would not be the first or last.

That’s even scarier!

Which would you rather experience ...

1) a sharp shard of glass severing your jugular vein as 2 million pounds of water falls on you?
2) a sharp shard of plastic severing your jugular vein as 2 million pounds of water falls on you?

Hmmmm. That's a tough one.

Hmmmm..Let me think a little bit more…Scary in that they would use Plexiglass which seems more prone to fail..

So sad - poor fish, poor guests and employees. Must have been very frightening!

poor fish
none could be saved :(2
only two people injured due to the time it happened
imangine all that glass from the chocolate shop rushing out into a street full of people

I mean, how the HELL could THIS happen?
Well, my first thought…..

Edit to add:
I really hope everyone is ok, and the loss of all the aquatic life and property damage is awful. If no one died from glass shards it is truly a miracle.

i keep thinking of the big aquarium in 007's Dr No
i never saw the movie, only read the book
