If two different labs GIA vs. IGL report a stone measurement EX: 6.70 x 6.51 x 4.27mm shouldn''t they be the same?
GIA 6.59 x 6.26 x 4.29mm princess
IGL 6.70 x 6.61 x 4.27mm princess these are suppose to be the same stone. The second number in the gia report seems to be 5% off the igl report. Can this be the same diamond?

NEED HELP immediately

Sad to say, but the present measuring devices in general use today. can be out of calibration enough to measure this far apart. Helium and ImaGem are the exceptions, but Sarin and Ogi are the more commonly used. What bothers me is that the major labs use those widely different measures of Sarin and Ogi to calculate how well a diamond performs. Reliance on those measures is probably a mistake.

I'd suggest looking at the clarity plot, fluorescence, clarity and color before you infer the two reports are for the same diamond. They may be or possibly they are not.

(I think this may be my 3,000th post on Pricescope..............)

perhaps the stone was recut before being sent to gia (?). what is the clarity?

do the clarity plots show the inclusions in the same spot?

what''s the story on this diamond? how did you find it? why are we trying to figure out if this is the same diamond?

(congrats on your 3k post dave

here is the deal - purchased in st. thomas diamonds international - I know dumb move beside that that misrepresented what they sold me. My husband and I was on vacation mode and looking at diamonds I went to the cruise line recommended store feeling comfortable with making a purchase and using my chase continential visa card. I also felt comfy about them having a nyc location in case something was wrong. We went in asked to see only gia certif. stones long story short after a few beers that they offered I purchase a 1.51 ct. princ. in a plat. ring. also had my eng. ring sized and polished when i was there. went to another store and bought a watch for my husband came back and she (Justine) was at the door with my bag w/certi. in it and the ring in her hand. I again asked it the gia cert was in the bag and she said yes. we went to the ship all excited about our purchase - went to the room and checked out the cert. it was a business card cert. IGL Independent Gemological Lab www.dia-lab.com . I was not pleased. that night at dinner i noticed my original diamond ring has a stone missing and the prong was stratching my pinky finger. I went down to the ON Board Media person (Gordon Wilson) royal caribbean cruise line to wright a report about my lost diamond and the certificate that they gave me on my ring. Told me know problem we back up all the purchase made by these company. FAT CHANCE> Stupid me believed them. I sent the ring back immediately to nyc diamonds international and went after my credit card. - They favored for them because I had no proof I asked for a gia cert. Anyway di has had my ring since feb 10 - my cruise was jan 15, 2006 and I am still fighting these people. I originally asked for a gia cert. for this diamond and I would take it back and they denied my request. so i wrote them i wanted my money back for misrepresentation. NO WAY Now they are claiming to have sent the original diamond to gia for the appraisal and they want me to take it back. I find it to be fishing on the measurements.

so how did you get the gia grading report? btw, measurments cannot be used to identify a diamond and unfortunately, nothing you have written here can be used conclusively to say a diamond was misrepresented.

In your first post you have the second measurement from GIA as 6.26, wondering if the numbers have been reversed and should have been 6.62.

However below this you state GIA 6.28.

Just wondered if GIA had reversed the numbers by mistake.

HI Thearthub-

I Almost fell into this same trap a few years ago while on cruise. I was looking at diamonds galore and luckily my DH talked me out of it. I did buy a few colored gemstones, although who knows what is really in those settings....

It is nothing short of deception that these cruise lines offer ''guaranteed satisfaction'', and cruise line ''reccomended vendors". I realized a day or two into the cruise what was going on, and that our ship''s rep. probably was an employee of the diamond store disguised as a cruise employee.

I have always thought this was an scam just waiting to be uncovered. Maybe if you start asking enough questions of the cruise line they will get uncomfortable enough to force DI to give you your $ back and get your ring fixed. It stands to chance that the Carribean location does not have strong laws, or any laws at all that require them to be truthful in what they sell. But any large cruiseline is not going to want you making noise about it.

Good luck and keep us posted.
