Medical Jewellery - Bespoke or Off The Peg?

Hi everyone. I have SO many silver bracelets with medical information on & I don't like any of them. They are all 'off the peg' as it were & there is always something not right, such as perfect style but too lightweight & cheap, perfect weight but ugly, uncomfortable, don't look right stacked with anything else. Given you have to buy them from the Internet, there's no way of knowing the quality before they arrive. All of these factors ultimately mean I don't wear any of them, relying instead on medical cards in my purse & phone case to do the job should they ever be needed (hopefully not).

Has anybody had anything made bespoke that they love & are happy & comfy to wear? And whilst keeping confidential engraving covered / turned over, would you care to share?

I am hoping to get a Cartier Love Bangle next year, so what would look nice stacked with it? I'm thinking a classic yellow gold rolo chain, medium or small in weight, from Tiffany & have the plain disc engraved. I already have this EXACT bracelet in silver, but it was the heaviest weight with the biggest disc & it's so bulky on my wrist that nothing stacks nicely, plus it digs into my arm at night & can cause bruises (bruising for me is a big part if my problem), so not an ideal solution. A smaller weight in gold might be easier on my skin & stack well with bangles.

How have you resolved the issue of wearing medical jewellery, whilst still being stylish & classy?

This silver cuff I wear the most, because it's so comfy I don't notice it. But it doesn't stack well & anything with a chain gets twisted around the open cuff ends.

This is my heavyweight Tiffany Tag. The tag was so clanky against everything I went near, that I had my jeweler remove some links, drill another hole in the disc & attach it at both ends. And now I hate it even more.....

When I worked in a jewelry store, we made a bespoke medical bracelet for a lady. It wasn’t inexpensive, but it was very pretty. My only worry was that it was so pretty, would it be recognized as a medical bracelet in an emergency? I wish I had a picture to show you…..

Having it recognised is definitely something to consider. The Tiffany probably wouldn't be noticed unless I was wearing the engraved side outwards, but I usually turn it inwards to my wrist so that people can't see it. The cuff does have a medical symbol on the top, but as you can see from the pictures it's so tiny & barely there - would it be noticed?

Does it have to be a bracelet - might you find an engraved pendant easier to wear and less irritating? Or do medical staff only routinely check for bracelets?

It has to be a bracelet, because I wear a solitaire pendant constantly.

Hi Ally, I love the look of stacked Love bracelets, so I think a bespoke bracelet that is similar to a Love bracelet (but of course different enough) would look beautiful. You could have one made with similar width as your Love bracelet, but perhaps have it engraved, and have your medical symbol part of the engraving. Mixed metals perhaps? I also like your idea of the Tiffany bracelet. If the Tiffany disk will turn, perhaps have your medical engraving on both sides? That said, with both options I do wonder if they will be too subtle and might be missed. I do not work in the medical field though, so I do not know.

Thanks for your ideas - i really value your input! You know I LOVE my bracelets & bangles, so I really want to take my time & get this right if I go the bespoke route. I'm just trying to work out what I like & what I hate / irritates me. An Internet search just brings up the same old, same old, so I am hoping to get some inspiration from other PSers x
