Hello, will someone please clarify for me the difference in pave and melee? I feel like the pave is more like a chip of a diamond and like melee is a tiny diamond. I am so confused.

Thank you.

Melee is typically diamonds under .25.

Pave is a setting style that sets very small diamonds closely together to maximize the appearance of diamonds and minimize the look of surrounding metal.

Because of the delicate way they are set, pave and micropave jewelry is ideally suited for pieces that will be worn occasionally instead of daily. Many people do still wear pave and micropave pieces for daily wear, but they usually know that it may mean a bit more upkeep in replacing stones from time to time.

Hope this is helpful.

And just to add, pave is not usually "chips" they are usually just very tiny cut stones.

Pavé (French for "paved") refers to a setting where the metalwork is covered (paved) with stones, ideally leaving very little or no metal exposed.

Melée (French for "fray", "fight" and similar to mélange, "miscellany") refers to small stones - sometimes of varied sizes - often employed to create pavé in jewels.

So, pavé is a technique and melée is the material used to implement it.

Mele are little diamonds

Pave is one of the ways of setting them. Lots of little stones bead set in a pavement of diamonds.
