Lots of engagements here in the past couple of days. You want to know a man''s theory as to why it''s coming fast and furious? FOOTBALL SEASON is around the corner! Men are wanting to make sure their weekends are free starting september...so if they want to do a summer proposal, they''d better do it fast!

(although I have to admit, the theory probably does have some sick sort of merit.)

You are sooooooooo right!!! That''s totally something my bf would do...in fact getting married in the fall has been ruled out b/c of football season! I can''t blame him because I''m a huge football fan too, but I think you''re on to something here.

I'm the football fan in my family and it's ABOUT TIME it starts again!!! Feb - Aug is so bleak on the weekends. I myself would never consider marrying during football season, and I'm currently training M that life revolves around football

I totally agree with your man, TG, but men (in general) should hurry up and propose to their LIWs soon no matter WHAT season it is

Haha. Funny theory. Paul''s sport is baseball, but the Braves suck this year, so he''s kind of given up his passion for watching EVERY single game they play. *IF* that''s what led to him asking when he did, YAY for the Braves having a horrible season!

*He''ll have a fit if he comes across this.*

Oh fisher, I can so commiserate with Paul on the Braves thing. Poor Braves.

TG, your post made me LOL!!

My fiance and I are baseball fans too, but our Yanks have been doing good! I told J the other night that the Yankees should win the World Series this year for the year that we got engaged!

Time will tell!

Oh my goodness!! I didn't even think about this! My bf and I are super big football fans both of our UW Huskies and our NFC Champs Seahawks. The season starts soon and then that's it.... until next year!!!! I'm never getting engaged. However, I did tell my boyfriend that he did decide to go the whole proposal at a game route that it would have to be during half time, we would have to be in the middle of the field with the band spelling out "Will you Marry Me?" in formation!!! There's no way he could pull that off, but since I was the mascot while I was in college, I do qualify for being on the field at Homecoming ... Oh man, he needs to do it quick before it's nothing but tackles and touchdowns.

Tell me about it! When we got married 3 years ago, "we" had to pick a date in the fall that fell on a weekend he wouldn''t miss out on one of his season-ticket games for the Bears! Also, I''ve just learned as of last night that we will be celebrating our 3rd anniversary in Cincinnatti, going to a Reds game (which is actually my favorite team) against his favorite team, the Chi. Cubs! So much for diamonds, lol! Anyway, though...I''ve decided to take the plunge and embrace his sporty side. DH just had a birthday, and I got him a grill cover with the Chi. Bears logo on both sides, as well as a Bears'' themed cake (small party with friends), a new long-sleeved t-shirt (bears, of course), some football novels, and I took the liberty of ordering myself a Bears visor with sparklies on the logo! I am most excited about it! A couple of years ago, I was soooo anti- sports, period. I wanted him to have "boy" time, but I didn''t understand sports, and why he had to indulge himself that way. Well, lo and behold, this year I have decided to turn over a new leaf and get involved in fantasy football, his pro-team, etc. It''s actually workout out well, and I''m actually interested in it! It''s as if he put in his time with diamonds, the wedding, etc., and now it''s my turn to pay attention to his loves. I think it will work out well in the end..I''m kinda feeding that "love bank!"

I feel ya, Monarch! I never had brothers, and though my dad loved sports (UCLA basketball and Lakers especially)...I was such a girly girl I never got that into it. I have three sons, and my dh LOVES football. When we lived in LA we had season tickets to the Raiders (now Los Angeles has no pro football team!!!). We moved east and have become Phillly fans. We have awesome seats in a suite which is great for the cold weather...I really love going to the games now and I am glad that I can share that with him and my boys! You have come over to the dark side!!!

Well I WISH my boyfriend only liked football.

Football is concentrated on Monday and Sunday, so that annoyance (for me anyways, because I know some of the ladies here are football fans

) only comes twice a week. But my boyfriend is sick about hockey. The NHL plays EVERY single night of the week, and he has this satellite option where he gets EVERY single game in the NHL. So the annoyance comes EVERY single day.

Oh yeah. And he watches football too. And he plays ice hockey 3 times a week, and floor hockey once a week. Hockey, hockey, hockey. And then more hockey.

I don''t like hockey very much

TravelingGal, I almost spit out my coffee from laughing too hard when I read this!

I can definitely relate - my boyfriend and I attended our team''s first pre-season game over the weekend and before we left, I asked him, "So, does this mean I have to say goodbye to you for the next 5 months?"

I''m so in agreement on this... my FI is a die-hard Redskins fan and owns two sets of season tickets so he can pick where he sits. YES, really. I was dead-set against getting married during football season, but since he waited until August to propose, even though we''d agreed on a year-long engagement, we don''t have much choice as August is TOO HOT for an outdoor ceremony! UGH. He says HE''S ok with missing a game for our wedding but he''s not sure about how his cousins will feel! And they don''t realease the schedule until April, so we can''t work around it or anything. I''m just hoping that by choosing September it will be early enough in the season that it won''t be a play-offs issue... and I''m also thinking ahead to anniversaries!

My boyfriend likes boxing. He just likes watching them beat the crap outta eachother. That and the only football team he likes is the Packers. They had a preseason game on TV this last weekend and they did so bad he almost cried. I thought it was funny anyways.....serves him right.. I dont have a ring yet... LOL

I can''t believe your FI has two sets of season tickets! I thought my DH was bad, lol! In addition to football possibly interfering with your wedding/anniversaries, have you thought about (if you choose to have children) timing your pregnancies accordingly as well? Sure would suck to have your hubby have to tear himself away from the game to go to the hospital with you, hee hee!

That actually HAS been mentioned! We''re still not sure if we want kids, but if we do, I do need to plan accordingly!!!

He says he knew it was love when I cut my finger open and called a friend to take me to the ER... didn''t call him until I was home... because the game was on. In reality, he lived 45 miles away at the time and I called my friend who lived 5 minutes away! But I also didn''t want to bug him once I knew I was taken care of! 4 stitches and he didn''t know until the end of the game!

Hello all, I am new here but have been lurking for awhile. I wasn''t planning on posting much right away but couldn''t resist!

TG- That is hysterical and probably right on the money.

My BF buys season tickets to games in another state that is at least a 3 hour plane ride away. He had to play his new 2007 college football X-box 360 game last Saturday to "prepare" for the new season. AND when I finally pushed him to give me a deadline because he was driving me crazy, his answer was "by the so and so football game". His time has become defined by football games instead of months or holidays.

Luckily, my BF and I both love college football, he even complains that I get TOO into it sometimes.

Unfortunately, I am sure the impending football season has not sped anything up in my case!

........and I thought my boyfriend was bad about somethings....if he gave me analagies for my timeline in football years, then I would be irritated. Very irritated. Probably because I wouldnt understand him or their language that men seem to have....

Alexis- Thankfully, it doesn''t bother me. I thought it was cute and very fitting for us. I keep telling him he''s lucky I "get" football! Otherwise, I would be very annoyed.

Believe it or not, but my FI is not one who likes to watch sports. At all. It''s funny because I enjoy watching a hockey game or football game every once in a while, especially with my dad, and J usually falls asleep...

He''s actually the one who suggested a fall wedding, and I love the idea!
