I know diamond color is a very personal preference and different people have different level of color sensitivity.

It would still be hugely helpful for me to see what’s the minimum color you would buy for a 3 carat ring in Tiffany/ Vatche 6 prong mount.

I have tried to frame the choices in the best possible way that I could think of. Let’s assume all the options are Whiteflash ACAs.

Likely not helpful since I dont really have a minimum (personally). But if I wanted something to face up "white" then probably H+ or maybe I if it was from HPD, CBI, VC and the side view was white enough that it wouldnt bother the person wearing it. But if it were me I'd be fine with any alphabet color haha. I've seen plenty of WF Js that look white enough for me to consider them "white".

With a budget large enough for a ~3ct super ideal, I personally would go for a F minimum. I am very color sensitive. It will depend on the individual and stone, G or H is probably fine for most.

Really interesting that of the 6 votes so far 3 people have picked I and 2 have picked G. Surprising that no one picked H. Very curious to see once more people have opined what the final count looks like.

Having had an H, I, and J. I would not go any lower than an H. My current H is whiter than my previous H. Both are ACA. I think I may have just lucked out that it’s a high H, closer to a G. So I’d say if you can find a high H then go for that to save money unless you know for sure you’re color sensitive then go E or F.

It so happens that right now WF has three options for H/VS in 3 carat range. I am sure that’s not always the case. So if that’s the path I decide to go, I will pick whitest of those 3.

You should ask your SA which one is the high H. I trust my SA to tell me the color range. Good luck.

Ditto @Dmndsr4evr11 and ask for a picture of all 3 upside down on a white background.

That’s exactly what I was thinking of. When in the past I have asked them for upside down pics to detect color differences, I have found it very helpful. Plus Liza (my SA) would herself let me know which one she thinks is the whitest.

There are definitely lows and highs in the AGS H range. Color would be important but how it looks face up would be even more important. I think if the stone has skinnier arrows it can look “whiter” because the darkness from the arrows is just harder to see. But that is probably irrelevant with ACAs because their LGFs are usually at least 77. An H AGS can look nearly as white as an E in about 60% of the lighting environments in my house. It’s the other 40% that it looks somewhat different to very different. I voted for G because if you can find a high G it gets you close to F without having to pay for an F. I also have a very white AGS G, where in most lighting 95% you cannot differentiate from a GIA F. And I am the color sensitive type so that where I’m coming from.

Would you mind sharing contact information for Liza? Another member recommended her too and said she was very helpful.

Sorry didn't mean to hijack this thread marrduk24.

My sweet spot for a superideal 3 carat RB is F VS1. I would personally never go below a G for a stone closer to 3 carat that is going to be set in six prong setting.

Interesting results so far.
So based on 22 votes so far

I vs H+ = 40% vs 60%
H- vs G+ = 54% vs 46%

1. I consider Pricescope to be a community of true diamond connoisseurs. Before I became PS member, I feel I had it completely wrong on color vs cut. I never thought “I” could be so good. The fact that 40% of the community here voted for I is amazing. I am not surprised now but would have been surprised two months ago.

2. I didn’t expect so many votes for F/ G (at the cost of size). So that’s interesting.

3. What’s also standing out is how bi-polar the views are - for those who don’t prefer I, they really go for F or G. I had actually expected H to get the most votes but it actually is getting the least votes.

In my opinion, I is plenty white. If I really had to throw more money towards the problem, I’d be putting that 10k towards bigger size (not sure how much of a difference in size you’d get for 10k at those sizes!) or perhaps another piece of jewelry. Or, to be safe, probably stick with H (obviously trying to get the highest H or I depending on what I go with).

To me, sacrificing size for colour is not worth it, because I’d always be wishing it could be that bit bigger. But I’m a size ho and im not colour sensitive. I also think I faces up very white most of the time!

If you go with Whiteflash ACAs, you can always upgrade the color or size!

Other issue is that supply of odd sizes is rather limited.

I voted H since the survey doesn’t address range within a given color grade. I would be fine with I if it’s a high I. otherwise I feel H is ‘safer’ as I would feel safe with any H 3ct.

I hear you. Good to know.

I was having the same dilemma as you and looked at all those 3 options you are considering. I ended up with a H VS1 as Liza said it was the whitest H out of all but I went over my budget

I didn’t even see H/ VS1, except for a 4 carat one, which is in a very different price point. I am tomorrow checking out a H/ VS1 / 3.76 (not WF).

Yup coz I bought the VS1. I was strongly considering the 3.126 stone as it was the biggest and cheapest but then it was sold/went on hold so I purchased the VS1. The 3.126 then went back up for sale

Thank you to everyone who voted.

I am guessing with 57 votes we are getting some sort of steady state now.

Results:

1. 40% of you said would rather get “I” color and pocket $10k difference (or use it for some other purchase) and 60% of you said you would go for “H or higher”, even if that meant going down in size.

2. What’s really interesting is the breakdown of that 60% - 20% picked “H”, 30% picked smaller “G” and 10% picked smaller “F”.

As for me, I was at H and remain there but seeing this is both fun and insightful. As I said previously, I wouldn’t have expected so many people to vote for G+.
