Yep! We eloped!!
This could probably be the looongest post ever, so bear (bare?) with me!
My (then BF) and I were sitting around a few weeks ago discussing how much we wanted to be married. We had been planning a Dec 09 or May 10 wedding, with our engagement happening this summer. There was already some stress involved, with us wanting to go have a tiny DW in Asheville, NC and our families wanting to have a bigger thing locally. To me, the idea of saying my vows in front of people made me want to vomit. But we both had compelling reasons to want to share it with family at the same time.
So, we came up with a plan. We decided to get married, just the two of us, the following Friday with the Justice of the Peace. We didn''t want all the fuss, we didn''t want all the "weddingy" things to get in the way of our moment. We weren''t going to tell anyone, and continue on with a ceremony/reception later for friends and family. My dear, sweet, adorable DH proposed to me with a bread tie made in to a ring. I always told him that I would say yes to one, and I did!
The ring thing is funny. I ordered a rose gold band from etsy for the ceremony, but her casting failed and so I had to use a silver stand-in she sent me instead. So I have two rings, soon to add 2 more (ering and matching band). Hows that for a PSers elopement!
The ceremony was great. We got to the JPs house, and I was a little freaked because it was NOT a romantic atmosphere. She is 85 (married 61 years) and her house was very old person, KWIM? But, that didn''t matter at all. As soon as she started the ceremony, everything faded except DH. I cried, unexpectedly, and it was seriously the most amazing moment of my life
Everything was great! And we really enjoyed having our little secret. UNTIL...everyone found out. People (mostly my mom) were mad, people were confused, it was a mess. Although, for the most part everyone was really excited and happy. My mom has really really come around. She loves DH, and us together, she was just shocked. But she is helping me plan, etc. now and is much happier since I told her we will re-do our vows in front of everyone.
Soooo now I am planning a vow renewal/reception for September! So far I am 80% sure about the venue. We ordered announcements, and I ordered Thank You notes. Hmmm that is about all I have so far! Oh, and we have a cupcake vendor. I think we will be doing a brunch reception at a gorgeous old house that is now a restaurant. I am excited, because I think brunch is so fun, and it''s our favorite thing to do on the weekends. I have no idea what to wear, though!
So there is my exciting (I think!) update! I hope to hang around here some and get help/ideas for the party!! Thanks to anyone who reads all this!
