Mokume Gane is awesome! My FI's wedding band was purchased from a fantastic artist named Chris Ploof. (FI's band is meteorite, not MG, but Chris does amazing MG, too!) I've seen his MG in person and it is jaw-dropping. A google search will bring up his website. He even does seamless MG, which is not at all common.
Making Mokume Gane is extremely time consuming, so you can understand that the rings aren't cheap. Price depends a lot on what metals you're choosing to be in the ring, but expect around $1500 - 2000.

You might also show your FI his Damascus rings...as I remember they''re slightly cheaper as they''re less time-consuming to make. His rings are extremely substantial. You''re not getting a thin little thing from Chris.
His turnaround time is 4-6 weeks, although he turned my FI''s ring around in 4.

I met Chris at a jeweler show in Atlanta the other day. I wouldn''t have known about the show, but he invited me to meet him there. I often make titanium parts for some of the rings he makes and had just made one when he mentioned the show. He happens to be the head of the Mokume Guild, and was giving a presentation on the making of it. He is very skilled in the art and makes his own mokume as well as damascus and meteorite rings. As Nicki mentioned, the all mokume rings are pretty expensive. They are just tons of work to produce. Other rings have an inlay of mokume or damascus in another material such as titanium or stainless, which are harder metals, and those rings are not as expensive to produce. They typically are in the $250 to $550 range.
DH has one of Chris'' Damascus rings. The difference between the Mokume Gane and Damascus and is type of metal used. Damascus is steel and therefore less expensive (and if I remember my periodic table of elements correctly, steel is harder than gold and platinum). The one real disappointment with the ring that he wasn''t expecting was that the ring wasn''t smooth. The graining in the Damascus is raised. But the colouring of the steel is different, a couple of different grades were used, so if and when it wears down to even there will still be a difference in colours. It''s quite pretty, I love it.
