I recently bought this moldavite:
(L-R: in sun catching light, in sun not catching light, in shade.)
It's not wildly attractive - bottle green (it literally is glass) with lots of bubbles and flow lines. More a collector's stone than one for wearing.
But it has a great story. It's a tektite, formed when a meteorite impact melted the surrounding rock and threw globs of the melt into the air. The internal flow structures are fascinating when viewed close-up:
I love those twisty threads. And I'm amazed that natural processes could create them.
