DH and I are finalizing decisions on our DW for October (we got married in Vegas last month but nobody knows and we are proceeding with the destination wedding as we had originally wanted).

The wedding is in Puerto Rico, where I''m from and where most of the guests live. In February we visited the hotel where we want to have the wedding, we were hoping for a May wedding but my MIL''s doctor banned her from flying for 6 months due to surgery, so we are now planning on an October wedding. Between February and now, the hotel remodeled the reception halls and changed their policies a bit. The rooms look gorgeous but the one room we fell in love with (and it''s a good size for our 20 guests) is now blocked every date they have a big wedding at the big reception hall at the hotel, including the Sunday were were hoping for. There is another room which was also remodeled but when we saw it in person we did not get a good feeling about it, the structure of it is not right, the remodeling made it prettier but still not right for us.

So after careful consideration and checking with our photographer that he could shoot on a weekday, we are most likely going with a Monday. We could also have Friday but the wedding will be in Old San Juan, which gets crowded on Friday afternoons and evenings as people start their weekend partying. Traffic is a disaster plus we would have oodles of people walking around as we try to take pictures. We know Friday would be less weird than Monday but we feel if we cannot have it on a Saturday or Sunday, then it really does not matter.

Half of our guests are flying in from Germany or the US, some of them have said a Monday wedding does not matter, they''ll be there no matter what. I was thinking those flying in for the weekend could arrive on Saturday and leave Tuesday. But then my mom said something along the lines of Ughhh, a Monday wedding...

even when I explained our reasons and I''m feeling a bit bummed about it.

I know it''s our wedding but I have this nagging feeling that Monday is just too strange. I don''t want to give up the room we love, it''s just perfect, but I''m not sure I can stand to hear many other Ughh, a Monday wedding... for the next six months.

Anybody here getting married or got married on a day other than Saturday or Sunday?

I''m attaching a picture of the room we love.

I am not nor have I ever been to a weekday wedding but as long as your guest don''t seem to mind I say go for it! I think DW have a whole different set of rules. It''s okay to be unconventional.

We got married on a Monday.

It was the first day the venue opened again after Christmas, and as we got married in England where pretty much everyone takes the whole week off between Christmas and New Year, our guests were not inconvenienced.

We had a tight time schedule because my fiance lived in the US, but had to be resident in England for three weeks in order to get the marriage licence. We decided to get married in December so we could combine our wedding with a family Christmas. If he arrived in England at the beginning of December, the earliest we could get married was Dec 29th so that''s what we did.

We then spent the day after our wedding in line at the embassy to get my spouse visa so I could go back to the US with him. I had to give up my passport for ten days, so no exotic honeymoon for us (although we did go to Hawaii six months later, so I''m not complaining).

we were in hawaii with our guests for our DW and our ceremony was on a wednesday....

it felt a little odd at first to do a weekday middle kind of thing...i wanted a friday or saturday at first. but it made more sense to do it on something like a wed so that guests could fly in on monday or something, have a few days, then go to the wedding, then have a few more days before having to head back home.

when you are traveling like that on a DW...you are totally in vacation mode and the days all just run together...so it was no big deal at all!! and kinda fun to be different.

I''m constantly yakking about it, but ours will be on Halloween, a Tuesday evening.

Good to see there are others out there who have or will be having a weekday wedding. Thanks for your feedback, feeling better already!

My wonderful hairdresser is having a Monday wedding (locally) on a holiday weekend and her guests are happy to attend. I think any day is a great day for a wedding!

Just thought I would chime in...my son and his FI are getting married on May 29th of this year and it is a Monday. It is also a holiday and since my FDIL and her mom are both teachers, they have it off. The venue that the wedding will be held at is very nice and in Laguna Beach. The only real drawback for us is the fact that since it is a holiday, Memorial Day, not alot of beauty salons or hairdressers would be open for us. Lucky for me and my persistence, I found someone who is willing to work that day with her assistant to help us out for hair and makeup.

Don''t worry what family or friends say about it...You need to do what is right for you. There will always be someone who has an opinion that they just HAVE to share. Let them and then forget it.

People here on PS do all the time. As much as I enjoy hearing what others say about what I have done, created, said or whatever, if its too bold, arrogant, unsolicited or just plain rude, I IGNORE it.

This is YOUR special day...enjoy it how you want to!

I''m getting married on a Monday for a DW too; I didn''t stress about it at all and neither should you. Do what makes you and your FI happy; you have been kind and changed the month for your FMIL, so have it on the day you want and have a great time!

Hola regalada

Congratulations on your wedding! I''m from Puerto Rico too, but I''m getting married in Rio Grande at The Westin Rio Mar.

Are you getting married @ Hotel El Convento?

The only thing that would worry me is if you have guests that live in PR. If your wedding is in the afternoon, you know how evil is the traffic back home and I don''t know if it will be difficult for the people that works.

My wedding is on a Saturday for the same reason and because most of our OOT guest are coming only for the weekend, but a weekday wedding was cheaper!

Oh! And I''m getting married in October too, the 14th!

Sunmoon, congratulations on your October wedding!

We are getting married at El Convento. I did think about the horrendous traffic back to Humacao (where I''m from and where most of my PR guests live) after the reception but I figured the reception will probably go on until about 7 or 8 and by then traffic will have subsided a bit. Luckily, the maid of honor is taking vacation days around the wedding to be available for everything and anything, and my other two friends are professors so they can arrange their schedule if needed to accomodate the wedding.

How big is your wedding? I heard the Westin Rio Mar is gorgeous for weddings. We wanted to go with El Convento because we wanted the wedding in Old San Juan, and because it will be easier to drop everyone off at the Old City and let them enjoy themselves without having to worry about driving.

Everybody, again thanks for your comments. Hubby and I talked about it last night again to make sure we are feeling ok about the Monday thing and we are, so I think early next week we''ll book it so we can move ahead with STDs and all the other fun stuff.

I am getting married on a Friday, in the afternoon at that! It''s a DW and it''s going to be just the two of us but even if there were going to be some guests, I would still want to do it on that day.

Mara- what island did you get married on? We are getting married on Oahu and maybe you have some suggestions for places to go afterwards and must-see sights?

I love El Viejo San Juan, my sister and her husband lives there in the cutest little apartment. And my brother in law family live in Humacao too.In fact, my sister got married at the church of the private school (ahhh, se me olvido el nombre!! San algo..)

Well, we are inviting a looot of people, most of them from my boyfriend side, but I''m expecting btw 150-175, which for the sake of our budget will be great!

You reception and wedding are early in the afternoon?

I''m a little bit stress out with all this wedding planning, I feel I''m behind!

Good planning and let me know if you need help or support,ha,ha!

Hey ladies. So my fiancee and I are also getting married at the El Convento - we''re in the Salon Campeche (the big room) on a Sunday - Memorial Day weekend of next year. We''re very excited - we saw the room on a holiday 2 years ago but we''re really excited to make it back and walk through it next month. We''re doing cocktails in the courtyard and the reception in Campeche. I''d love to hear your perspective on the room. We''re probably having 75 people to the wedding, and we''ll be leaving a larger dance floor and having a live band on the stage area. The pictures look great and Natshalie has been wonderful, but personal opinions will be great.

Thanks!
